ROCKDALE TIGERS VS. SALADO EAGLES SCRIMMAGE

Rockdale to host Smithville for season opener Friday

A trip to Salado last week exposed some of the gaps the Rockdale Tigers are trying to fill before the start of the regular season which is just around the corner.

While last Thursday was a scrimmage and there was no score per se, the Tigers were outscored 4-0.

What did the athletic director and the head Tiger football coach Hunter Hamrick have to say about his team’s performance: “Our defense was asleep and we were not overly advanced in our approach on offense.”

“We traded film with Salado and we were not really prepared for what they did,” he continued. “They have the numbers so lots of fresh legs and they showed up with a lot of energy and we did not respond to their energy.”

The Tigers looked flat Thursday, their inexperience and youth showed up. It was no doubt a night of potential growth with lots of opportunities to be coached up.

It’s too bad Salado treated this scrimmage more like the Super Bowl rather than allow the Tigers to be in game-like situations and work on what they needed to work on. I’m sure our coaching staff encouraged Big Blue to press reset and move on.

Coach Hamrick shared that the Tiger quarterback situation is “good.” Firstyear varsity starter Greyson Williams is doing what they ask him to do.

The Blue & Gold are using a running back by committee approach so get ready to see some downhill running this season.

THIS WEEK— Friday night lights, here we come ready or not. The Tigers take on Smithville at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tiger Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

You can hear the band and see the cheerleaders if you listen closely and squint your eyes just a little.
