FRISCO—In what was the first trip for Shelly Segovia and Elizabeth Perry to the state powerlifting meet, the two Rockdale High School sophomores held their own amongst the top competition in Texas. Perry placed 10th in her division while Segovia finished 13th out of 15 lifters.

During this past Thursday’s meet for all of the marbles, Perry had a squat of 325, bench pressed 200 and had a dead lift of 310 pounds for a total of 835. The winner of her division, Crystal City’s Relyla Rios, won with a meet total of 965 pounds. Perry punched her ticket to state earlier this month after just missing out on the state meet last season.

Segovia had a squat of 325, a bench press of 150 and a dead lift of 305 that added to a meet total of 780. The winner of her division was Lytle’s Natalie Pacheco, who ended the day with a total of 1,145 pounds.

TIGERS— Although the powerlifting season has come to an end for the Lady Tigers, Tiger lifters Kevin Liu and Bryce Flowers competed in their state meet later this week at Abilene’s Taylor County Expo Center. This is the first trip for Flowers, who has set numerous records throughout his career, and Liu’s second consecutive trip to the Texas High School Powerlifting Championships.

The two RHS seniors compete on Friday afternoon.
