DUBLIN—Over the weekend, Rockdale High School students Shelly Segovia and Elizabeth Perry qualified for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s state championship meet in Frisco. Segovia secured a silver medal in her division with a squat of 310 pounds, a bench press of 145 and a dead lift of 295 for a total of 750 pounds. The sophomore Perry punched her ticket to the next meet with a third-place finish by squatting 315 pounds, bench pressing 200 and a dead lift of 305 for a total of 820 pounds.

Other top competitors for Rockdale were Perry’s classmate Anna Harris, who just missed out on advancing to the state meet after placing fourth in her weight class. Harris squatted 215, bench pressed 140 and dead lifted 225 for a total of 580. Fellow Lady Tiger regional qualifiers were Melody Duran, Jill Eubank, Odalys Flores, Ashley Gonzales-Reyes, Shellsea Musto, Tatiana Olivares, Shakira Richards, Georgina Rodriguez, Caressa SanMiguel and Lizzie Zinn.

Segovia and Perry compete on Thursday afternoon, March 16, at the Comerica Center in Frisco.

TIGERS— Rockdale’s boys powerlifting team has seven competitors headed to their regional meet in West this Saturday. Lifters for the Tigers include Bryce Flowers, Clay Fountain, Daniel Gardiner, Miles Grear, Kevin Liu, Ryan Luckey, Tristan Rupe and Zeb Skrhak.

Of the RHS athletes going to West, Liu is the only has been to the state meet before.
