RHS wideout Ross Loth hopes his work speaks for itself at college level

In front of countless friends and family at the Law Offices of Carroll Glaser on Wednesday, Rockdale High School senior Ross Loth signed his letter of intent to continue his football career at Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth.

“The pressure’s finally off,” Loth said. “I know where I’m going.

“It’s been kind of stressful not where I was going to end up, but now that I’ve officially signed, it’s just a big weight off of my shoulders.”

Before Loth made his verbal commitment on Nov. 6, he was forced to weigh offers from numerous programs like Southwestern, Texas Lutheran, Missouri Valley and Culver-Stockton.

“Well, there were several other small schools that made offers and I looked at their roster,” Loth, who averaged 20.8 yards per reception as a Tiger, said. “And I really liked the campus.

“I just wanted to go somewhere I could a get my degree first off and have the best chance to play. I don’t want to go to a big time school and ride the bench.”

The 6’3”, 195-pound receiver also chose TW based on what they were selling him, which was the truth.

“Well, they haven’t specifically told me that I was going to play because they had two all-conference receivers and one of them was an all-American.” he said. “They said ‘we want you here badly, but you’re going to have to earn it’.

“Right now, I just want to make the travel squad, let my work show and see where it goes from there.”

He said the staff at Wesleyan told him that they’d try him at different places on the field.

“They said I’ll be moving all around,” he said. “They’ll try me at both receivers and I’ll get to compete for the punting job.

“So, I’ll get a chance to use my leg in college as well.”
