Both boys and girls soccer teams, who are struggling through injuries, lost their District 26-4A matches.
The boys’ teams lost to Eastside Memorial in Austin 8-0 on Monday, Achieve 7-0 at Tiger Stadium last Friday and New Tech Manor 4-0 in Manor last Tuesday.
With goalie Brandon Hernandez out with injuries, Coach Gilberto Rodriguez put in the team’s game announcer Keylan Hairston at keeper.
“He made some big saves that kept us in the games at times,” Rodriguez said.
“Against Achieve we were very organized the first half. Kids were hustling the whole first half but we had very unlucky goals,” he said, about Achieves two points in the first half. “In the second half, you could tell the kids had already given their all. We gave more space and ran less, and the other team took huge advantage of that.
“Against Eastside, we started off really good for the first 20 minutes, but after that we lost composure,” he said about Monday’s game.
Eastside Memorial made it to the Class 4A Regional Quarterfinals last year.
On Friday, the Tigers will take on a Taylor team that made it to Class 2A regional semis before losing to Progreso 1-0.
“We are going to Taylor and try to play a good game. I think if the kids are ready to play with a good mindset, they can do big things,” Rodriguez said. “We lost to Taylor 5-0 last time. This time, I think I have a more complete team. I am missing a few, but we never know.”
The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. in Taylor. Rockdale dropped to 3-4 in district play.
LADY TIGERS – The girls’ team forfeited its home game against Austin Achieve due to lack of players. They dropped to 3-4 in district.
RHS lost to Eastside Memorial at home Tuesday.
On Friday, the Lady Ducks will play RHS, 5 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
