Rockdale took down the McGregor Lady Bulldogs 11-5 on Tuesday evening at Lady Tiger Softball Field for their second district win.
“I think it went really well,” said Erin Palmer, Rockdale High School softball coach. “We did an all around good job defensively.”
Karley Leopold led Rockdale from the circle with 8 strikeouts, allowing 6 hits. At the plate, Autumn Montelongo led the Lady Tigers going 4-for-4 and Macy Knesek hit a home run.
This past weekend, the Lady Tigers went 4-1 in Taylor in the final tournament of the 2019 season.
They kicked off the tourney with a 24-3 win over Georgetown Gateway last Thursday. After a 19-run second inning, the game was called on the 10-run rule. Eanes led Rockdale with three hits and Montelongo had two hits and four runs batted in. Knesek, Emily Depine, Leopold and Andrea Salazar each had two hits. Leopold pitched for RHS and had three strikeouts and gave up one hit.
Rockdale began last Friday with a 6-2 loss to Wimberley. Haven Jimenez pitched for RHS and allowed four hits and had three strikeouts. Leopold threw one inning in relief, striking out one.
RHS ended the day with a 12-3 win over 6A Killeen Shoemaker. The Lady Wolves took the lead early on, but Rockdale scored four in the second inning and six in the third with a rally of singles by Knesek, Eanes, Montelongo and Depine. Leopold gave up six hits and struck out two. Knesek led the Lady Tigers with four RBI’s and Depine had two. Montelongo, Eanes and Depine each had three hits.
On Saturday, RHS defeated Killeen Ellison 22-5, 16 runs in their first at bat. Depine, Jimenez, Knesek and Hannah Rodriguez all had two hits and Eanes, Leopold, Salazar, Mariana Casarez and Tyley Arledge each had one. Rodriguez had four RBI’s, Salazar had three, and Leopold and Depine each had two. Jimenez had five strikeouts and three hits.
In their final game, RHS defeated Victoria West 19-5. Jimenez led Rockdale at the plate with three hits. Leopold struckout three batters in 2.1 innings.
The Lady Tigers are 2-0 in district and play on the road against Lexington on Friday.
“Pitch selection is something we’ll have to focus on against them,” Palmer said. “Because they can hit.”
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
