RGSL sign-ups to be at ‘Little Dribblers’

According to Rockdale Girls Softball League president Helen Parrish, registration for the upcoming season will take place at the “Little Dribblers” basketball games at the Rockdale High School Gymnasium on Saturday. For those interested in signing up their daughter, bring proof of child’s identification and the cost for each individual player is $70.

RGSL will be taking signups until Saturday, Feb. 25, and late sign-ups until Sunday, March 5, for an additional $10. Parrish also said via Facebook that if someone is wanting to sign their child or children up for softball but can’t make the Saturday sign-up events, to contact her at 979-587-2234 or co-president Richard Parrish at 936-349-6608.

The league is also looking for volunteers to coach and umpire games for the upcoming season.

RHS soccer teams fall in Giddings

On Monday evening, Rockdale High School Tigers and Lady Tigers soccer teams traveled to Giddings where both lost.

The Tigers fell 5-2 to district contender GHS. Angel Rivera scored both of Rockdale’s goals. Rockdale’s girls also struggled in Lee County, losing 11-0.

Both teams return to Tiger Field on Friday, where they will take on La Grange. The Lady Tigers start at 5:15 p.m. while game time for the boys is 7:15.

Spring ‘Meet the Tigers’ Saturday

On Saturday, the Rockdale Tiger Athletic Booster club is hosting a Spring “Meet the Tigers” where community members will get a chance to meet RHS students involved in spring sports such as baseball, softball, track, golf and tennis.

The event will have a fish fry fundraiser at 11:30 a.m. at the RHS Baseball Field. Tiger baseball players will play in an alumni game at 10 a.m. and Lady Tiger softball players take part in a co-ed alumni game at 1:30 p.m.

A catfish plate, which includes coleslaw, baked beans and hush puppies will cost $12. There will also be a drive-thru option at the RHS bus drop-off location.
