Cheerleading camp Thursday at RHS

RHS cheerleading mini-camp is scheduled for Thursday from 6-8 p.m.

Cheerleaders ages pre-K through fifth grade can register when doors open at 5:30 p.m. at RHS gym.

Cost for the camp is $25. Checks can be made out to the RHS Varsity Cheer.

The cost includes a snack, drink and spirit item.

Cheerleaders from the camp will preform during the first quarter of RHS vs. Jarrell home game on Nov. 2, during the Hall of Honor night.

Helicopter golf ball drop, golf scramble set for October 6th

After the 28th annual Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament, the Rockdale Noon Lions Club will conduct a helicopter ball drop at the Rockdale Country Club.

The ball drop is scheduled for immediately after tournament, which starts at 8:30 a.m.

A helicopter will fly over head and drop 300 golf balls onto the fairway. The first ball to go into the hole or get closest to the hole will win $500, according to Allen Sanders chairman.

Cost to enter the ball drop fundraiser is $10 per ball or $40 for five. Allan Miller is chartering the helicopter from Temple for the drop.

Proceeds will go to the Lions’ scholarship fund.

Sanders said the format will be men’s and women’s scramble with teams grouped by handicap.

Entries will be limited to 72 players (subject to change). Players age 65 and older can use the club’s senior tee boxes.

Entry fee is $65 per player and includes lunch, cart and 2 mulligans per player which can be used at any time.

Kay Theater 5K Run needs zombie actors

High school students who wnat to earn community service hours can sign up to portray “zombies” for the Kay Theatre 5K Run on Oct. 6.

Time is 7 to 10 a.m.

Caldwell scholarship run set for Saturday

CALDWELL—The first Sunflower/Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund 5K Run/Walk and Kids 1-Mile Fun Run/ Walk is set for Saturday, Sept. 29, at Caldwell’s Davidson Creek Park.

It’s in honor of the late Melodie Jones who died in a US 79 accident.

Registration is $30 for the 5K run and $25 for the kids run.

On-line registration is at www.melodiesmeow.com. Same-day registration is 7:30 to 8:15 a.m.

Kids run starts at 8:30 and the Sunflower Fun Run at 9.
