Milano, Thorndale district meet set for Monday

The Thorndale and Milano cross country teams run in their district meet on Monday, Oct. 8 in Gause.

Spots available for golf scramble this Saturday

Following the 28th annual Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament, the Rockdale Noon Lions Club will conduct a helicopter ball drop at the Rockdale Country Club.

The drop is scheduled immediately after tournament, which starts at 8:30 a.m.

A helicopter will fly over head and drop 300 golf balls onto the fairway. The first ball to go into the hole or to land closest to the hole will win $500, according to chairman Allen Sanders.

Cost to enter the ball drop fundraiser is $10 per ball or $40 for five. Allan Miller is chartering the helicopter from Temple for the drop.

Proceeds will go to the Lions’ scholarship fund.

Entry fee for the scramble is $65 per player and includes lunch, cart and two mulligans per player, which can be used at any time.

Sunflower Run/Walk

The Sunflower Run/Walk at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell on Saturday, Sept. 29 was created to raise money for the Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship.

The top six finisher’s from Saturday’s race were: 1. Andy Gutierrez at 19:59; 2. Lisa Koenig at 20:57; 3. Jairam Katta at 21:37; 4. Kadance Koenig at 21:50; 5. Jim Walton at 22:36;

6. Wyatt Koenig at 22:44.

The Scholarship will be awarded to a Milano ISD senior who exhibits compassion and is goal-oriented.

Jones graduated from Milano High School in 2015 and was pursuing her dreams of becoming a nurse at Blinn College in Brenham, before being killed in a tragic car accident on July 4, 2017.
