Lady Tigers grab
all-district honors
Seven Lady Tiger hoopsters were awarded District 19-3A honors for this season.
Sophomore Anna Harmon was named to the first team and Andrea Salazar made the second team.
Honorable mentions from RHS were Payton Miller and Miah Beckwith.
Academic all-district selections were Salazar, Miller, Beckwith, Jena Locklin, Karli Marburger and Yarely Navarro.
Junior Varsity baseball
plays Hutto on Friday
The Tiger Junior Varsity squad didn’t play on Tuesday due the varsity game being pushed up to their typical time slot. They play their next game at home against Hutto on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
MHS softball falls
4-3 to Thorndale
The THS softball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-3 win over the Lady Eagles. Riley White led Thorndale on the mound with 12 strikeouts and had the games only home run in the top of the seventh inning, which was the go ahead run after the Lady Eagles came back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Sterling Robertson led Milano, going two-for-three and Jenna Lewis had seven strikeouts. This past weekend, MHS went 1-4 in the Franklin Tournament. Beating Fairfield 11-0 and losing 13-0 to White Oak, 4-0 and 11-0 to Crawford and 5-2 to Huntsville.
THS throwers both win gold at Rockdale Relays
Thorndale’s Corbin Preusse won the shot put with a 48-2 at the Rockdale Relays on Friday and Corey Preusse threw a 159-8 to win gold in the discus. Corbin also placed in the discus, throwing 121-10 for fourth.
M-Town runners win
gold at Rockdale Relays
Milano High School runners Parker Jones and Devonte Jones both won medals at the Rockdale Relays on Friday. Parker won the mile with a new MHS school record of 4:25.1. Devonte won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.53. Devonte also ran in the 110-meter hurdles and placed second with a time of 11.17.
In addition to the Rock-dale Relays, both Jonese broke school records at the Centerville track meet the night before. Parker broke the school record in the 800-meter run with a 2:01 and Devonte broke the 200-meter dash record with 22.1. The 400-meter relay team of Gus Downey, Christian Thurman, Drew Demeritt and Devonte won the race with a 43.5. Thurman placed third in 100-meter dash with an 11.2 and Chris Sootoo finished third in the mile with a 5:22. Sootoo also placed fifth in the 800 with a 2:12 and Downey placed sixth in the 200 with a 23.9. Demeritt placed fifth in 400-meter run with a 54.7. The Eagles placed fourth in Centerville. For the Lady Eagles, senior Emma Batten placed fifth in 800-meter run with a 2:36. MHS runs at Thrall High School on Thursday.
Laywell wins Taylor
Tennis Tournament
2018 Class 2A girls singles state champion Landry Lay-well went through the entire Taylor Tournament without giving up a game. Laywell defeated opponents from Madisonville, La Grange and Jarrell 8-0 and won the finals over an opponent from Gatesville 6-0, 6-0.
Milano, Thorndale
baseball grab wins
The Milano Eagles defeated Somerville 10-0 on Saturday morning. Tucker Taylor led MHS on the mound and went 2-for-2. THS went 2-1 at a Salado and Jarrell co-hosted tourney. They defeated Schulenburg 8-2, Flatonia 19-1 and lost to Bryan-St. Joseph 6-1.
