Tovar wins playoff

at Hillcat Classic

Former Rockdale High School golfer Tucker Tovar won the Hillcat Classic in Owasso, Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 19, defeating Texas A&M International’s Parker Holekamp in a playoff after both golfers were tied at 215 at the end third round. Tovar is a senior at University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and was a state finalist during his career at Rockdale High School.

Whitsel, Gonzalez win Franklin tennis tourney

Devon Whitsel and Reyna Gonzalez won their second tournament of the season on Friday in Franklin.

The 2018 Class 3A mixed doubles state champions won their opening match 8-0 over a team from Thorn-dale and defeated a Caldwell duo 8-1 in the tourney semi-finals.

Whitsel and Gonzalez won the championship with a 6-0. 6-0 shutout over a team from Little River-Academy.

Autumn and Tim Montelongo also played mixed doubles and lost in the consolation finals.

Bianca Zapata and Stephanie Ceja played in the girls doubles division and lost in the consolation finals.

The RHS tennis teams will play in the Liberty Hill Tournament on Friday and return to Franklin for the District 19-3A tournament on Tuesday, April 2, and Thursday April 4.

Laywell wins Franklin tennis tournament

Landry Laywell won the girls singles division of the Franklin Tournament this past Friday.

Laywell opened the tournament with 8-0 wins over Skrhak of Granger and Defriend of Groesbeck. To win the tourney, she defeated May of Franklin 6-2, 6-2.

Austin Pauswang played in the boys singles, losing to Malby of Groesbeck 8-3 and Mauldin of Little River-Academy 8-6.

Elise Biar and Sam Reaves played in the mixed doubles division, losing 8-0 to a team from Rockdale and 8-2 to a team from Lexington.

The THS tennis teams play in their next tournament on Friday in Taylor.

play on Monday in Taylor

The Milano and Thorn-dale High School golf teams both head to Taylor on Monday to compete in the District 25-2A meet. The top teams advance to regionals in Corpus Christi on Monday, April 22.

Thorndale sweeps

Milano 2-0 in series

The Thorndale High School baseball team remains undefeated in District 19-3A after beating the Milano Eagles on Tuesday evening 13-3 and 10-0 on Saturday afternoon.

In Tuesday’s game, the Eagles stayed with the Bulldogs, trailing 2-1 at the end of the fourth inning but THS added three runs in the fifth to have a modest lead over Milano but then added eight runs in the sixth with hits from Scott Guzman, Ty Kovar and a three-run homer by Corey Preusse.

Milano fought until the end scoring two in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game going

The Bulldogs were led by Collin Taylor at the mound with six strikeouts and four hits allowed in six innings pitched.

Tucker Taylor took the loss for MHS. Taylor struck out three and allowed four hits in five innings.

The Bulldogs play their next game on Saturday at Granger and the Eagles play next in Bartlett on Saturday as well.

Tiger Stadium to host

playoff soccer game

In addition to hosting the first ever Rockdale Tiger playoff soccer game on Thursday, the new Tiger Stadium will host a boys playoff game between Madisonville and La Vega on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and a girls playoff game between Cameron and Bell-ville following the conclusion of the first contest at 7:30. Ticket prices for adults are $5 and $3 for students. All district passes will be accepted.

MHS softball beats

Bartlett Lassies 12-1

Milano got their fourth District 25-2A win 12-1 over the Bartlett Lassies early Tuesday evening.

The Lady Eagles fell behind early, when the Lassies scored one in the first but took over in the second inning when the girls scored four runs that included a three-run single by Kristian Taylor. Milano kept the scoring going, with three in the third and five in the fourth and winning the game 12-1 after four and a half innings.

Jenna Lewis pitched a one-hitter and struck out thirteen in five innings pitched.

MHS shut out Rosebud-Lott earlier in the week 6-0. Lewis struck out 10 and Laynie Bastow struck out five. They face Thorndale on the road Saturday. First pitch is scheduled noon

White throws no hitter against Holland 2-0

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs defeated Holland 9-0 on Tuesday night. THS took the lead 2-0 in the third innings and ran away with the game in the bottom of the sixth when they scored seven runs powered by hits from Madison Kelm, Madison Flores, Hannah Laurence, Kelsey Kovar and Riley White.

White led Thorndale from the circle pitching a no-hitter and striking out fourteen.

The Lady Bulldogs also defeated Leander Glenn 8-0 this past Friday. White struckout 13 and allowed four hits in a shutout game.

THS plays next at home on Saturday against Milano. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at noon.

MHS boys break records at Franklin relays

The Milano High School boys track team placed second at the Franklin Relays.

For the boys, Devonte Jones won the long jump with a leap of 21’10” and the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.5, breaking the MHS record.

Parker Jones also broke a school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.10.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Gus Downey, Christian Thurman, Drew Demeritt and Devonte also broke the MHS record time of 1:31.5.

The sprint relay team of Downey, Thurman, Demeritt and Devonte will compete at the Texas Relays on Saturday at 9 a.m. Devonte will compete in the 300-meter hurdles at 6:25 p.m. on Friday.

The rest of the Milano track teams will compete Thursday at Fayetteville.

Thorndale track

competes in Lexington

The Thorndale track teams competed at the Lexington meet this past Thursday.

For the girls, Hannah Laurence won the 100-meter hurdles, playing an instrumental part in her team’s fifth place fi nish.

For the boys, Michael Herzog placed second in the triple jump with a height of 43-10 1/2” and Corey Preusse won shot put and the discus. Preusse won the discus with a 156-0” and the shot put with a 52-8 1/4”.

Preusse will also represent the Bulldogs at the Texas Relays on Friday competing in the discus which is schedule to start at 4:15 p.m. Preusse holds the THS record of 160-2”.

The rest of the Thorndale track team will compete in Riesel this Thursday.

RJH track teams win

in Lexington meet

The eighth grade girls won their meet and seventh grade girls placed fourth. Eight grade boys finished in fourth and the seventh grade boys won their division.

The Rockdale Junior High track teams run in Temple on Thursday.
