Milano, Thorndale boys compete at Texas Relays
Christian Thurman, Gus Downey, Drew Demeritt and Devonte Jones competed at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Jones tied his personal record time of 38.62 in the 300-meter hurdles. He placed 11th out of 15, but unlike many of the high school races at the Texas Relays that were divided by school enrollment classifications, Jones was one of three competitors in the race that weren’t from a 5A or 6A school.
The next morning, the sprint relay team won their heat with a time of 43.65 edging out 4A Brownwood who ran 43.69.
The Eagles ran the 18th fastest time out of 49 schools and ran the second highest placing 2A school behind Garrison, who ran a 43.34. The Bulldogs are in Region III, so if the Eagles do encounter them, it will be at the state track meet.
Thorndale’s Corey Preusse also competed in Austin on Friday the discus. Preusse threw 11th out of 23 throwers with a 161-05.
Like Jones, Preusse also competed with all classifications and was one of four competitors from a small school.
Both Milano and Thorn-dale track teams will compete at the district meet on Wednesday after press time in Thrall. Field events began at 10 a.m. and running events begin at 5 p.m.
