Area all-district honors announced
Five Rockdale High School girl soccer players were named to the all-district 26-4A teams by coaches.
Senior goalie Kaylee Criswell was named to the first team and defender Elysia Ruelas was named to the second team. Honorable mentions were Vanessa Gonzalez, Marina Costilla and Carla Ugalde.
THS golf shines at district tourney
Two golfers from Thorn-dale will advance to the 2A Regional Golf Tournament.
Mattie Fisher and Mason Drumm will head to the regionals in Corpus Christi on April 24-25.
Both girls and boys teams placed third in the District 25-2A Golf Tournament in Taylor, Monday, April 1.
Mattie Fisher was a silver medalist with a score of 93.
Drumm placed fourth with a score of 99.
Lady Bulldogs receive academic honors
Elise Biar and Landry Laywell were named to the academic all-state team. Biar and Laywell are seniors and were a part of 2018-2019 Lady Bulldog team that made it to the regional quarterfinals before losing to San Saba.
Rockdale grad competes in collegiate invitational
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor golfer Annie Hasselbach competed in the West Region Invitational this past week at the Berry Country Club in Georgetown. Hasselbach and the Lady Cru finished the tournament tied for first with the University of Texas at Tyler before losing the title in a scorecard playoff.
The 2017 Rockdale graduate shot a 79 on the first day of the tournament and a 94 on the second day of the tourney for a total of 173 and tying for 20th place.
She is the daughter of Brent and Leslie Hasselbach of Rockdale and was a part of three state qualifying Lady Tiger golf teams from 2015 to 2017.
RJH wins 13 first place medals at district meet
The Rockdale Junior High track teams finished their season on a high note last Friday with a second place team finish for the eighth grade girls and for the seventh grade boys. The eighth grade boys finished fourth and the seventh grade girls came in fifth.
First place finishers for the eighth grade girls were Emma Whitsel in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. Julie Bartsch won the shot put and Yolianna Castillo won the pole vault.
Top finishers for the seventh grade girls were Melanie Moccia in the 100-meter dash and Cierra Miles in the 200 and 400-meter dash. Ashley Gonzales won the discus.
For the seventh grade boys, Jesus Bocanegra won the mile with a 5:25.32 and an 8:20.93 in the 2400-meter run. Isaiah Sauls won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.89. In the field events, Cruz San Migel won the long jump with 17-0 1/2 and Coylton Malkey won the pole vault with an 8-0 as his best height.
Bulldogs lose first district game in 8-4 loss to rival Thrall
The Thorndale Bulldogs lost their first District 27-2A contest in an 8-4 loss to Thrall in Williamson County on Tuesday night.
THS was unable to overcome a five-run rally by the Tigers in the third inning and two in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bulldogs didn’t commit a single error and were led by Collin Taylor who struck out eight in five innings pitched.
The Bulldogs are tied with Thrall for first in district and face Bremond on the road Friday.
MHS baseball moved to Wednesday in Granger
With the recent storms over the weekend, the Milano baseball team’s game with Granger was moved from Tuesday to Wednesday. The game will be played at 5 p.m. in Granger.
Lady Eagles fall to Holland in 12 innings
The Milano Lady Eagles fell in a back-and-forth game in Holland on Tuesday night before falling 10-9 to the Lady Hornets.
MHS took the lead 8-6 in the top of the eighth but Holland answered back with two and the same happened in the ninth when Milano scored one.
Holland won the game on a 0-2 single with one out in the 12th.
Jenna Lewis led M-Town from the circle with 23 strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles play next at 4 p.m., Friday, at home against Bremond.
Lady Bulldogs take down Rosebud
THS ended their game with Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday early after scoring 15 runs after three innings.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to an explosive start with seven in the first and followed that with eight over the next two innings.
Riley White gave up no hits and struckout all but two of the batters she faced.
THS plays next in Granger on Friday.
They are undefeated in District 27-2A and are ranked fourth in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll.
Thorndale tennis headed to regionals
Four Thorndale tennis players are headed to the regional tournament.
Seniors Sam Reaves and Elise Biar will play in the mixed doubles bracket and Austin Pausewang will play in the boys singles division.
2018 state champion Landry Laywell will play in the girls singles division.
They will play in the regional tournament on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 in Corpus Christi.
