RJH golfers season opener is in Cameron

Rockdale Junior High School golf teams played nine holes in their first tournament of the season on Monday at the Cameron Country Club.

Tatiana Olivares led the way for the girls team with a 71 and Alyssa Talbott and Peyton Smith each shot a 79.

Blaydn Barcak was the leader for the boys with a 66 and Carson Eoff was three strokes back with a 69. Joey Ramos and Ashton McEntarffer each shot a 72 and Wyatt Windham shot a 76.

Both teams play next on Tuesday, April 23 at the Pecan Lakes Golf Course in Navasota.

Tiger hoopsters earn district, state honors

Five RHS boys basketball players received all-district honors. Senior Zac Davis made the All-District 19-3A first team and senior Kelan Evans made the second team. Doss Hasselbach and Ryker Zinn made the first team for the Academic All-State team and Davis and Mason Monzingo made the second team. The Tigers went 12-19 this past season under first year head coach Sean Coleman.

Spring banquet tickets on sale

Tickets for the Rockdale Spring Athletic Banquet are on sale at the Athletic Office for $5 at 832 Murray Ave.

The banquet scheduled for 6 p.m., April 30 at the RJH Commons will honor athletes who participated basketball, powerlifting, soccer, golf, track and field, tennis, baseball and softball. All athletes will be given a meal ticket during athletic periods.

Parents need only purchase tickets if they plan to eat at the banquet. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door the night of the banquet.

Tiger boosters golf tourney set for May 4

The Rockdale Tiger Booster Club Golf Tournament and Crawfish Boil will take place Saturday, May 4 at the Rockdale Country Club.

Entry fee for players is $100 per person and $25 for additional meal tickets. Carts will cost $10 per person.

Players must be 18 years of age and prize money will be awarded to the top three places.

Hasselbach places 16th in college championship

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor golfer Annie Hasselbach placed 16th overall at the American Southwest Conference Championship April 12-14 at Squaw Valley-Comanche Lakes Golf Course in Glen Rose.

Hasselbach shot 84-85-83 and was a part of a champion Lady Cru team, making it their second in a row.

The Lady Cru will compete in the Division III National Championship held at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston May 14-17.

She is the daughter of Brent and Leslie Hasselbach of Rockdale and played on three state qualifying teams at RHS from 2015 to 2017.

MHS pitcher gets first perfect game

MHS pitcher Jena Lewis took down the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars 8-0 on the road Tuesday in perfect game.

Lewis threw 18 strikeouts in her first perfect game of the season and average four pitches per batter with 84 pitches thrown in 21 at-bats.

The Lady Eagles scored 1-0 in the second inning and added runs in the fourth and fifth, then ran away with the game when they scored four more in the sixth.

Karyme Santana led Milano at the plate going three-for-four. Kaitlyn Telg and Laynie Bastow both had two hits for Milano.

MHS play their final home game of the season on Thursday against Bremond. The Lady Eagles defeated Bremond 2-0 in March.

THS senior signs with Sul Ross State

Thorndale High School senior Sam Reaves signed a letter of intent on Monday morning to continue his basketball career at Sul Ross State University in Alpine next season. Reaves led Thorndale in scoring this past season with 20 points a game and will join former teammate Ty Prince who played for the Lobos this season.
