Lady Eagles face Shiner in 2A bi-district playoffs Thursday

The Milano Lady Eagles softball team will play in the bi-district round of the UIL 2A State softball playoffs Thursday against Shiner in Smithville.

MHS faces a Lady Comanche team that won District 28-2A and is the second-ranked team in Class 2A in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Lady Bulldogs in three game playoff series against Brazos

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs will open the post-season in a best-of-three series with Wallis-Brazos, the fourth place team from District 28-2A.

THS will open the series on Wednesday, 6 p.m., at Brenham High School and the second game will be at the same time and place on Thursday. The time and place have yet to be determined for a third game.

MHS, THS track teams go to regionals this weekend

The Milano and Thorndale High School track teams will compete at the Region IV Class 2A track meet at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville this Friday and Saturday.

For the Eagles, Devonte Jones, Parker Jones, Christian Thurman, Gus Downey, Chris Sootoo, Drew Demeritt, Kathen Fun-burg and Marquise Jones will compete.

Jaden Carmichael, Kayce Midkiff, Emma Batten, Abby Miller and Sterling Robertson will compete over the weekend for the Lady Eagles.

THS will have Mason Drumm, Michael Herzog, Corbin Preusse and Corey Preusse will representing the Bulldogs and Hannah Laurence, Elise Biar, Landri Leschber, Allison Albert, Ava Vicnair, Lauren Newton, Ash Kiesling, Victoria Smith, Saryn Peel and Landry Laywell will compete in Kingsville for the Lady Bulldogs.

2A golfers head to regionals

The Thorndale and Milano High School golf will have 11 students competing at the Region IV Class 2A golf tournament in Corpus Christi held at the Oso Beach Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday and Thursday.

For MHS, the district champion boys team of Tucker Taylor, Colby Doelitsch, Mason Westbrook, Noah Benavidez and Ryan Blakely and the district champion girls team of Faith Walton, Kristian Taylor, Mary Brown and Mackenzie Woolverton will compete this week.

For THS, medalists Mason Drumm and Mattie Fisher will compete for Thorndale.

Laywell takes third straight regional tourney championship

Thorndale High School senior Landry Laywell won the Region IV Class 2A tennis regional championship for the third straight year last Thursday at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi.

The 2018 state champion had a

first round bye. In the quarterfinals, she beat Isabella Coscetti of Woodsboro in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and in the semis she did the same to Makenna Palacio of Mason. She defeated Palacio’s schoolmate Kate Gillespie 6-1,6-1 in the tournament finals.

Laywell will play next at the UIL Class 2A tennis state championships on May 16-17 at the Mitchell Tennis Center and the Smith Intramural Tennis Center in College Station.

Tiger Booster Club Golf tourney proceeds go toward athletics

Entries are still being accepted for the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club Golf Tournament and Crawfish Boil set for Saturday, May 4 at the Rockdale Country Club.

Entry fee for players is $100 per person and $25 for additional meal tickets. Carts will cost $10 per person. Players must be 18 years of age and prize money will be awarded to the top three places. For more information, contact Jeff Miller at 512-430-6150 or the country club at 512-446-4013.

District 14-6A softball playoff will be at RHS softball field

The Lady Tiger Softball Field will host a playoff game between District 14-6A champion Cypress Ranch and Leander, the fourth place team from District 13-6A on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled at 7 p.m.

Tuesday’s RHS spring athletic banquet tickets still available

The Rockdale High School athletic program will have their spring banquet this Tuesday at the Rockdale Junior High Commons at 6 p.m.

The banquet will honor all high school athletes that participated in basketball, powerlifting, soccer, golf, track, tennis, baseball, softball and cheerleading.

Tickets are $5 each and athletes will be provided one meal ticket.
