host tennis camp
Two-time mixed doubles state tennis champions Reyna Gonzalez and Devon Whitsel are hosting the Second Annual Rockdale Tennis Summer Camp July 8-12 at Veteran’s Park on Murray Avenue.
Camp is open to children ages 8 to 16 years old of all abilities. Registration fee is $50. Fee includes t-shirt and registration into the 2019 Rockdale Open.
Campers ages 8-11 will hit the courts Monday-Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m. and Friday 8-9 p.m. Athletes ages 12-16 will take the court Monday-Thursday 6:30-8 p.m. and Friday 9-10 p.m.
Participants should bring a racquet, water bottle, towel and court shoes. There are some loaner rackets available. Call 512-430-0050 or 512-629-0756 for more information.
RCC hosts variety of summer events
Rockdale Country Club has scheduled several events for the month of June.
Wednesday, June 19 is a scramble and steak night, followed by the Senior Tournament on Thursday, June
20.
MISD Golf Tournament 4-person scramble will be Saturday, June 22 at 8 a.m.
There will be a 3-person scramble on June 29-30, which will cost $150 per person and $450 per team.

July 1 is deadline for volleyball camp
Rockdale Summer Volleyball Camp will be held July 29-31 at RHS gym.
Registration is $40 for high school campers and $30 for younger students. Deadline is July 1. Students in grades fourth through twelfth are eligible to participate.
Camp for high school athletes is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and for fourth through eight grade athletes 1-3 p.m.

Rockdale Open
starts in July
Tennis at its hottest turns 40 this year. The 2019 Rock-dale Open is scheduled for July 17-20 at Veterans Memorial City Park.
Registration for the youth and adult divisions is $12 per person per event.
Matches in the youth division are set for July 17-18 and for the adult division July 19-20. For more information contact youth director Shelly Sanders at 512-760-6100 and adult director Sparky Thomason at 512-545-2266.
Events will be limited to draws of 16 and may be combined if necessary. Balls will be furnished and a 15-minute default rule will be in effect. Players must also check in 30 minutes prior to their match.
Thorndale sports camps in June
Thorndale High School Coach Lance Betak will hold a softball skills camp at the THS softball field June 17-20. Student in grades second through fifth will take the field from 9-10:30 a.m., and grades sixth through ninth will go from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Campers will work on fielding throwing and hitting. THS softball players get accolades
THS pitcher Riley White was selected to play in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star team in Arlington on July 9 and four players get selected to state all-tournament team.
White’s 1-4A red team will play the blue team 7 p.m. at the Workman Softball Complex, 701 E. Arbrook, Blvd., Arlington. There will be a softball demonstration before the game. Admission is $5 for adults and children under five are free.
Four Lady Bulldogs from the softball state championship runner team got named to state all-tournament team. TGCA’s picks were: Madison Kelm, catcher, Kelsey Kovar, third base, Jayci Martinka, shortstop and Emilee Baker, outfielder.
Milano summer workout schedule
Students have access to the Milano ISD weight room 9-10 a.m., Monday through Thursday during the month of June.
MHS coach Amanda Keen will also have a softball skills session from 10-11 a.m. every Tuesday at Becky Dent Field and Coach Lee Essman will have a basketball skills session at Geneva Paceley gym. All athletes from seventh through 12th grade are welcome. July dates and times have yet to be determined.
