Rockdale athletes must complete medical forms

All Rockdale ISD student athletes are required to complete a medical history form in order to participate in a UIL sports this upcoming school year.

Athletes in seventh, ninth and 11th grade must also have a physical examination completed.

Medical History and Physical forms can be picked up at the Athletic Office or at the Rockdale Junior High office. Forms can also be found online at www.rockdaleisd.net.

RHS volleyball to start two-a-days August 1st

The Rockdale High School volleyball teams will begin two-a-days on Monday, Aug. 1, at the RHS gym. All players must bring their own t-shirts and shorts for the first couple of days before gear is issued.

First practice of the day will go from 8-10 a.m., and the afternoon session will go from noon until 3 p.m.

All medical history and physical forms must be complete in order to participate.

Rockdale open set for

July 17-20th at park

The 40th annual Rock-dale Open is scheduled for July 17-20 at Veterans Park.

Adult and youth players can register for $12 per person per event.

Matches in the youth division are set for July 17-18 and for adult division July 19-20. Contact youth director Shelly Sanders at 512-760-6100 and adult director Sparky Thomason at 512-545-2266 for more information.

camp ahead July 8-12

Tennis camp signups continue for the second annual Rockdale Tennis Summer Camp July 8-12 at City Park.

RHS two-time mixed doubles state champions Reyna Gonzalez and Devon Whitsel are teaming up one more time to help young players develop their tennis skills.

The camp is open to children ages 8-16 and the registration fee is $50. The fee includes a t-shirt and registration in the 2019 Rockdale Open the following week.

Campers 8-11 will hit the courts Monday-Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m., and Friday from 8-9 p.m. Athletes age 12-16 will have their camp from 6:30-8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 9-10 p.m.

Participants are advised to bring a racket, water bottle, towel and shoes fit for running. There are loaner rackets available for prospective campers if they need one and for more information call 512-430-0050 or 512-629-0756.

Volleyball camp starts July 29 in RHS gym

New RHS head volleyball coach Kelsey Hudson is hosting a camp July 29-31 at the RHS gym.

Registration is $40 for high school campers and $30 for younger participants and students in grades fourth through 12th are eligible for the camp.

The high school session is from 9 a.m. until noon and athletes in grades fourth through eighth will go from 1-3 p.m.

Milano sets weight

room times for July

Milano ISD has set their weight room hours for the month July. The school will be closed July 1-5 but will be open from Monday through Thursday during the second and third weeks of the month. The gym will also be open Wednesday and Thursday, July 24-25 and the final week of July from the 29th through Aug. 1.

The weight room will be open every from 6:30-7:30a.m., and skill sessions will follow from 7:30-8:30a.m.

RCC to host ‘Tigers and Friends’ golf tourney

The Rockdale Country Club will hold a tournament for past members of the RHS golf teams July 26-27.

Past and present golf coaches are eligible to compete and there also will be a limited number of spots for supporters and friends of the programs.

The tourney will be a four-person scramble with a blind drawing party on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. Play will begin at 11 a.m., the next day.

Entry fee is $70 per person which includes green fees, lunch, one mulligan and awards.

Longest drive, closest to the hole and hole-in-one (if happens) prizes will be awarded.

MAK Agility Camp set July 13 at high school

Rockdale High School will hold the third annual MAK Agility Camp on Saturday, July 13.

Students from ages 7-18 are welcome to participate in the camp. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the kids will be put in their respective groups an hour later at eight. The camp will begin at 8:30.

The camp honors late Rockdale students Monterious Hancox, Ahkeem Williams, and Ki’adie Han-cox who died in a car-train collision in May 2010. The camp was started by former coach Herbert Jones and NFL offensive lineman Le’Raven Clark, who named the camp after the first initials of each boy’s name to honor them.
