Help wanted for RISD 2019 sporting events

Rockdale Independent School District is looking for ticket sellers and bleacher monitors for varsity, subvarsity and junior high home football games.

Pay is $45 per varsity competition and $20 for subvarsity and junior high games.

All RISD employees are eligible. Non-RISD employees must have the Criminal History form on file with Christy Betchan at the RISD central office.

Drumm finishes third at Moody Invitational

On Saturday, 14 runners from Thorndale High School’s cross country teams competed at the Moody Invitational.

Mason Drumm led the Bulldogs in third place with a time of 17:32.0. Ty Pesl was next in 36th with a time of 19:49.9 and Jason Penick was nine places behind in 45th with a time of 20:45.3. Garrett Bernstein came in at 56th with a time of 22:07.1 and Blake Roberts finished 61st with a time of 22:51.4. Chance Betak placed 69th in a time of 24:08.0 and Dan Bradshaw finished right behind Betak in 70th with a 24:36.1.

Jacey Paulsen was the frontrunner for the Lady Bulldogs placing 27th with a time of 14:50.7. Tristyn Buchanan was five places behind Paulsen in 32nd with a time of 14:58.7 and Bailee Baker finished 45th with a 15:17.7. Abby Dickerson placed 47th with a time of 15:20.3 and Makaelyn Vivas finished 64th with a time of 15:53.3. Alyssa Pachl placed 71st and Wendy Perales placed 72nd respectively with times of 16:18.4 and 16:27.0.

This was the second meet of the season for THS after running in Temple on Friday, Aug. 16. Thorndale is back in Temple this Friday at Wilson Park for their next race.

The Thorndale Middle School cross country team makes their season debut on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Lexington meet.

Milano runners debut at Florence Invitational

Milano Eagle and Lady Eagle cross country runners began their season this past Saturday in Florence.

For the boys, Andy Gutierrez was the only high schooler that competed. The 2018 regional qualifier finished 31st with a time of 21:00.58. Angel Contreras and Chris Vazquez did not compete in Florence.

Due to Bethanie Compton, Danni Shaw and Abby Olson playing at a volleyball tournament in Rock-dale on Saturday, only Natalie Compton and Mollie Ybarra competed for the Lady Eagles. Compton placed 11th with a time of 16:09.33 in the junior varsity girls race and Ybarra placed 18th with a time of 17:02.56.

Seventh grader Itzel Carillo led the junior high girls in 20th place with a time of 17:00.72 and Mallory Miller placed 27th with a time of 17:21.25. Mackenzie Mathews finished in 52nd place with a time of 21:51.35 and Rayelee Keen placed 63rd with a time of 28:01.7.

Wyatt Koenig led the boys with a time of 14:20.24 and Sam Ybarra finished 64th with a time of 20:34.68.

MHS doesn’t have a meet scheduled this week but will run in Lexington on Saturday, Sept. 7.
