Tiger boys XC finish fifth in McGregor

Rockdale’s boys cross country team placed fifth in McGregor with junior Albert Silva and sophomore Seth Davis both runnning the race in 19:08.4. Silva was 22nd beating Davis, who was 23rd out of 120 runners.

Other Tigers running were: 32. Cristo Hernandez, 19:32.6; 40. Chris Perez,19:59.4; 47. A.J. Hicks, 20:14.4; 62. Yovanney Delgado, 21:00.5; 92. Alec Silva, 22:46.0.

Salado, Jarrell, West and District 19-3A rival McGregor were the only teams to beat RHS and McGregor’s top five runners placed in the top 12 finishers.

LADY TIGERS–Sophomore Ivanna Luna-Hernandez led the girl’s team, placing fifth out of 112 girls with a time of 13:00.3.

Three of four runners ahead of Luna-Hernandez ran at the state cross country championships last season.

Other Lady Tigers that ran at McGregor this past weekend were: 30. Cady Barcak, 14:29.9; 33. Jesenia Navarro, 14:37.2; 86. Alize Llanas, 16:26.7.

Both Rockdale teams will run at the Caldwell Invitational this Saturday. This will be Rockdale’s second to last meet before the District 19-3A championship in Cameron on Monday, Oct. 14.

Gause football beats Buckholts 41-26

On Thursday, the Gause Junior High football team defeated the Buckholts Badgers 41-26.

The Bears play next in their homecoming game Thursday against Bryan’s Allen Academy at 5 p.m.

The Lady Bears volleyball team lost to Westphalia 23-25, 15-25 on Monday after press time and host Coupland this Monday starting at 5 p.m.

RJH football teams play in Lexington

Junior High football teams played their first games of the season this past Thursday in Lexington.

The eighth grade team trampled the Eagles in their season debut with 33-12 win.

Kemar Spencer was the first scorer of the season with a five-yard TD pass from Blaydn Barcak. Mason Willard kicked in the point-after-touchdown (PAT) to make the game 7-0.

The Tigers scored another five-yard touchdown in the first win Wyatt Windham ran the ball in later in the quarter. Willard made another PAT to put Rockdale up 14-0.

At halftime, RJH took a 27-0 lead with a 65-yard pass from Barcak to receiver Cruz San Migel. Willard made the extra point.

Later on, Chad David block a punt that led to him out running the entire LMS defense for a 50-yard touchdown.

In the third, Lexington scored but Spencer also scored his second touchdown of the game on a 45 pass from Barcak.

Standouts on offense wereIsaiah Sauls, Noah Pastrano and Madden Montelongo and defensive was David, San Migel and Sterling Prazak.

RJH seventh graders lost to Lexington Middle School 6-0. The Eagles scored on a 45-yard run in the second quarter.

RJH’s defense stopped Lexington from scoring again in the fourth on the one-yard line.

A.J. Sandoval made a huge tackle on fourth-and-one, according to coaches.

Offensive standouts were Tim Giles, Bradon Ellis. Defensive standouts were Sandoval and Jamericki Clark.

All junior teams play on Thursday in Bellville.
