Bocanegra, Tenorio top RJH runners
Rockdale Junior High’s Jesus Bocanegra was the top cross country runner in Caldwell on Saturday, beating out more than 75 middle school boys for the top spot.
Bocanegra was the only boy to finish the two-mile race in under 11 minutes with a time of 10:51.
His teammate Jesus Tenorio was right behind him in second place with a time of 11:41.
Aaron Montelongo also placed eighth with 12:29.
Other Tigers running were: 41. Lorenzo Rivera, 14:37; 42. Wyatt Smith, 14:45; 43. Francisco Reyes, 14:49; 48. Daniel Castillo, 14:53; 54. Pedro Tenorio, 15:16; 55. Diego Garza, 15:22; 70. Zeke Castro, 16:32; 75. Coylton Malkey, 17:12.
Izabella Delgadillo was the top Lady Tiger in the middle school girls’ race. Delgadillo placed sixth with a time of 14:01.
Other RJH girls running were: 11. Ciara Miles, 14:20; 24. Jacie Hartley, 15:47; 58. Elizabeth Perry, 17:42; 62. Kinley Galvan, 17:58; 67. Emily Noto-Gutierrez, 18:35.
Both RJH teams run this Saturday in Cameron. This meet is their final meet before the District 19-3A meet in McGregor on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Koenig top runner in JH girls race
Milano’s Kadence Koenig was the winner of the middle school girls’ race on Saturday in Caldwell.
Koenig finished the race with a time of 12:24, 21 seconds ahead of Lexington’s Kamree Woldridge.
MJH’s Itzel Corillo also placed in the top 10 placing eighth with a time of 14:12.
Mallory Milla placed 17th with a time of 15:17 and McKenzie Mathews finished 63rd with a time of 18:09.
MJH boys were: 21. Wyatt Koenig, 13:20; 66. Jude Penick, 16:00; 67. Sam Ybarra, 16:00.
MJH runs in Caldwell this Saturday.
Lions Club hosts golf tourney, Oct. 5
The Rockdale Lions Club will hold their annual golf tournament and helicopter golf ball drop on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The tourney kicks off at 8:30 a.m., at the Rockdale Country Club. The entry fee per player is $65 which includes lunch, a cart and two mulligans that can be used at anytime.
First place will be awarded $500, second place $200 and third wins $100.
A silent auction and the helicopter ball drop will follow the tourney. Tickets for the drop are $10 per or $40 for five tickets. The grand prize is $500.

Lady Bears shutout Coupland
Gause Junior High’s football team lost Thursday’s homecoming game 41-7 to Bryan’s Allen Academy.
Homecoming king and queen were Cole Dyer and Jasmine Ruiz.
Prince and Princess were Drew Werlinger and Hailey Brown.
Seventh grade court was Allyson Madrid and Colten Kirk. Sixth grade court was Cole Lehoski and Shakeva Gooden.
The Bears have this week off. They play Thurdsay, Oct. 3, 5 p.m., in Westphalia.
The Lady Bear volleyball teams swept Coupland on Monday night. The eighth graders won 25-23, 33-31, and seventh grade team won 25-21, 25-15.
They play next Monday, Sept. 30, at A&M Church of Christ against Aggieland Homeschool at 5 p.m.
