Tiger golfers win in Bastrop on Tuesday
Rockdale golf teams competed at Colovista in Bastrop on Tuesday.
“Both groups had a great showing,” said Coach Ethan Noel. “Ross Loth shot 8o to take first place, Brayden Burns shot 83 to take second place and Jake Hasselbach shot 90 to take fourth.
“On the girls side, Whitley Boyd shot 91 to take fi fth place,” he said.
Both teams will play Brenham Country Club next week. Boys play Monday, March 16 and girls play Thursday, March 19.

Country Club to host senior tournament
Rockdale Country Club will host a Senior Tournament Thursday, March 19 at 9 a.m. for members and non-members.
UIL state basketball tournament games
The 3A conference state boys basketball tournament semi-finals are set for Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Coldspring-Oakhurst (36-4) takes on Dallas Madison (23-12) at 1:30 p.m. and Peaster (34-5) plays San Antonio Cole (32-6) at 3 p.m.
The winners will meet for the state championship 10 a.m., Saturday at the Alamodome.
In the 2A boys semi-finals Martin’s Mill (39-o) plays San Saba (21-8) at 8:3o a.m. and Shelbyville (36-3) vs. Gruver (3o-5) at 100 a.m. The championship final will also be played at the Alamodome at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Bulldogs win two third place titles
Thorndale’s boys’ and girls’ tennis teams won third place in the doubles and mixed doubles brackets at the Thrall Varsity Tournament last Tuesday.
Kaelin Kuhl and Jordyn Bodiford won the consaltion bracket when they defeated Chilton’s doubles team 7-5. They lost to Thrall 8-1.
In mixed doubles, Brynn Hunter and Ridic Meraz lost to Bosse/Nutt of Chilton 8-o, but defeated Walther/Aguilar of Giddings 7-5 to win the consolation bracket.
In girls’ singles, Chloe Grimm defeated Matejeck of Giddings by a score of 6-2. Grimm lost to Perez of Chilton 8-3.
In mixed doubles Katie Briones and Maddox Rubio lost to Cortez/Kilpatrick of Jarrell 9-7 and to Walther/Aguilar of Giddings 6-3.
In boys’ doubles, Chance Betak and Dereck Cauble lost to Cook/Fernandez of Chilton by a score of 8-2 and to Paz/Santos of Navasota 7-5. They beat Rosser/Cougar of Giddings 6-2.
JV-Thorndale’s junior varsity tennis teams competed in the Belton Junior Varsity Tournament last Thursday.
Results were: girls’ doubles-McKenna Biar and Ave Vicknair def. Gonzalez/Khun of Manor New Tech, 8-7 and lost to Pradhan/Huynh of McNeil, 8-o; mixed-Alex Kunze and Alex Inocencio lost to Lopez/McDaniel of Killeen, 8-o, lost to Martinez/Clark of Belton, 8-i, lost to Riscaldini/Avelar of Waco, 8-2, lost to Haman/ Adams of Killeen, 8-3 and to Perz/Gonzalez, 8-4; boys’ singles-Wylie Barrett lost to Heble of McNeil, 8-i and lost to Rajel of Vandergrfit, 8-6 and Anthony Vicknair lost to McCarthy of Belton, 8-2 and to Camba of Killeen, 8-7.
The team’s next match will be against Taylor, Thursday, March 26.
THS baseball team opens season play
The Bulldogs, who are ranked second in District 27-2A behind Thrall in the Texas High School Baseball website, will have played Rosebud Lott at home on Tuesday.
They will play their Hwy 79 rival Rockdale Thursday through Saturday at Tiger Field and in Thorndale. Tuesday, March 17, they will travel to Rosebud Lott.
THS softball team hosts doubleheader
The Lady Bulldogs ranked fourth by the Texas Girls Coaches Association state softball poll will have played their second and third 27-2A games at home against Milano and Bremond on Tuesday. Results will be in the next week’s issue.
The will play Highway 79 rival Thrall on the road Tuesday, March 17.
MHS golfers tee off in Taylor, Monday
Eagles golfers will be in Taylor on Monday, March 16. Tee times at Mustang Creek Golf Course starts at 9 a.m. They played in Flatonia last week.
THORNDALE-The Bulldog golfers will face-off in a district matchup against the Taylor Ducks on Monday, March 23.
Lady Eagles gear up for district games
The Lady Eagles softball team will have played their District 27-2A opening games on the road in Thorndale at 3 p.m. and Thrall at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Results will be in the next issue.
They are scheduled to play their third game at home against Granger on Tuesday, March 17. Junior varsity begins at 4:3o p.m. and varsity immediately following.
