Registration for golf tourney underway

Golf tournament registration is underway at the Rockdale Country Club.

The 13th annual Rockdale Tiger Booster Club Golf Tournament and fish fry entry is $75 per person.

This includes a meal ticket for the July 11 tournament.

Additional meal tickets are $15. Participants must be 18 and older to play. “It really is a blast.” RHS

“It really is a blast.” RHS Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey said. “It’s a fun way to enjoy the golf course and all the money goes to the kids.”

Morning and noon tee times are available. Schedule as follows: morning flight, 8 a.m. and noon flight, 12:30 p.m.

Hole sponsorship fees are $75 and include the sponsor’s sign on the hole and a meal ticket. Prize money will be awarded to the first through third place finishers.

Tennis in July canceled

For the first time in 40 years, The Rockdale Open will not be held. The cancellation of the tournament stems from the dwindling number of signees.

“We’ve been getting less and less interest for the past five years,” Rockdale resident Sparky Thomason said. “We decided this before the coronavirus thing. It’s just that another event is always happening during the tournament and not enough people sign up.”

Ken Cooke, who participated in many of the Rockdale Opens, said he was disappointed that tournament would not be played this year.

“It’s always a bummer,” Cooke said. “I can remember hundreds of people coming in town to attend the tournament. There’s just not too many tennis players in Rockdale anymore.”

The tournament would have taken place during the second or third week of July.

RISD summer workout schedule changed

With the news of a COVID-19 infection case, RISD changed its summer workout schedule.

The weekly workout schedule for boys remains the same, while the girls schedule has been postponed for two weeks starting Monday, June 15-25.

Weekly schedule dates are: June 15-18, 22-25 and 29-30 and July 1-2, 8-11, 13-16, 22-25 and 27-30.

RHS and RJH boys will have strength and conditioning (SAC) from 10-11:45 a.m. on the dates above and sport specific instruction (SSI) from 10-11 a.m.

RHS and RJH girls begin their workouts on June 29 from 8:30-9:45 a.m. (SAC) and 10-11 a.m. (SSI).
