Powerlifters gear up for Florence meet

The RHS powerlifting teams compete in their final scheduled meet of the 2019 season on Friday, Feb. 8 in Florence. Lifters who finish the regular season in the top 12 of their weight class qualify for the 2019 UIL Region 2 Division III meet. The girls regional meet is Saturday, Mar. 2, in Little River-Academy and the boy’s is in West on Saturday, Mar. 9.

RHS golf team

heads to Austin

Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams hosted a tournament at the Rockdale Country Club on Wednesday, Feb. 6, after press time. Both squads will play their next meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Avery Ranch Golf Club in Austin, which is hosted by Stony Point High School in Round Rock.

Soccer games

rescheduled

The Tiger soccer game against Hearne has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. due to Hearne having a girls basketball playoff game on Monday, Feb. 11.

Milano students

sign at colleges

MHS seniors Parker Jones and Kathen Funburg signed letters of intent to play for Texas colleges on Friday, Feb. 1.

Jones signed to run track on scholarship with Stephen F. Austin University. He won gold in the 2018 UIL 2A state mile and helped the Milano mile relay team win first place in state. The Eagles team took the state championship last year.

Jones took second place in the UIL 2A State Cross Country meet in 2018.

Funburg will play football for the Birmingham Prep Cardinals junior college team. The three-year two-way starter for the Eagles, played quarterback his senior and threw for over 800 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Mitchell leads

Aggies to victory

Wendell Mitchell led the Texas A&M basketball team to victory on Saturday, Jan. 26, over Kansas State 65-53 with 22 points all in the second half.

Mitchell is a 2015 RHS grad and a junior at Texas A&M University.

Loth makes

all-academic team

Texas Lutheran University football player Pearce Loth was named to the American Southwest Conference’s All-Academic team on Friday, Feb. 1.

Loth is a 2015 RHS grad and a senior at TLU.
