Tiger hoops cancel games over holidays
Games for the Rockdale boy’s basketball team are canceled this week due to opponents wanting to cut down on traveling over the school break amid spread of COVID-19.
The Lady Tigers had no games scheduled over the holidays and both teams will return to floor to resume district play on Tuesday, Jan. 5, when both squads host Rogers.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. for the girls with the boys’ starting right after.
THS girls fall to Class 4A Salado, 57-42
The Lady Bulldogs were challenged over the break, losing 57-42 at Salado on Tuesday afternoon.
Makayla Lafferty led the squad with 15 and Abby Dickerson had 12.
The Thorndale girls’ head back to the court for another challenge on Saturday, when they host Class 3A Rogers.
Jump ball is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Like the girls, the Bulldogs also struggled with bigger schools, losing 71-48 to Class 4A Lampasas on the road Monday.
The boys come back for the new year on Tuesday, Jan. 5, to host Marble Falls Faith Academy.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., following the conclusion of the junior varsity game.
Lady Eagles avenge earlier loss to Burton
Milano’s girls returned from Christmas on fire with a 33-28 win over Burton in a game that was close for it’s entirety on Monday morning, getting revenge for a 24-16 loss to Burton on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
Montgomery Popham led MHS with 12, while Laynie Rose had 11.
Sophomore Aaliyah McBrewer had seven.
The Lady Eagles fell to Bremond the following day, 40-26.
McBrewer had 16 while Rose had six.
The Eagles also played Tuesday, falling 48-34 to Normangee.
Weston Avrett led with 11 and Jayce Todd had nine.
Both Milano teams resume play Tuesday, Jan. 5, with the Eagles heading to Burton and the Lady Eagles starting district play at home against Granger.
