Rockdale soccer teams face Cameron Friday

The RHS boy and girl soccer teams match up against Cameron for the first time this season on Friday at Tiger Stadium.

This will be the second District 26-4A contest for both squads after the Lady Tigers lost 1-0 to Georgetown Gateway on Tuesday and the Tigers played in Hearne on Wednesday after press time.

The girl’s kick-off is at 5 p.m., and the boy’s follow at 7 p.m.

RHS softball gears up for Killeen tourney

The Lady Tigers softball team is scheduled to compete in the Killeen ISD Tournament Thursday through Saturday.

On Thursday RHS plays Midway at 1:30 p.m. and Friday they take on LBJ Austin at 9 a.m., Ellison at noon and Lampasas at 3 p.m.

RHS beat Jarrell 20-5 on the road on Tuesday, and the RHS JV game was canceled due to field conditions at the Lady Tiger Softball Field. The wetter than normal year resulted in the cancellation of the Smith-ville softball games on Feb. 8.

Giddings on Monday

The Lady Bulldog softball team began the season with a 1-0 loss to Giddings on Monday.

Thorndale plays next in the Brenham Tournament Thursday through Saturday. They are scheduled

to face Sweeny 11 a.m.,

Thursday and Elkins at

1 p.m. Both games are at Holht Park in Brenham.

Three Bulldogs rank

in top 10 in THSPA

Thorndale boys and girls powerlifting teams finished in 11th and 12th place at the Lehman Lobo Invitational last Saturday and five lifters placed in the top 10 at Lehman High School. Three THS powerlifters rank in the top ten of the Region 2 Texas High School Power-lifting Association.

The Bulldogs scored 11 team points, which was good enough for 11th place. Corey Brooks, who ranks third in the region, led the boys’ team with a second place finish in the super heavyweight class lifting 700-pounds in the squat, 405 in the bench press and 450 in the dead lift. Mason Liles, who ranks fifth, placed eighth in the 165-weight class with lifts of 515, 290 and 470 in the squat, bench and dead lifts. Ridic Meraz at 220 pounds lifted 450, 255 and 430 for tenth place.

Tyler Huf in the 220-pound class and Justin Paxton in the 165-pound class were 14th and 15th place respectively, while Gabriel Ramthun placed 19 th.

The Lady Bulldogs placed twelfth as a team. Lauren Newton, who is ranked tenth in Regional 2 in the 148-pound weight class, placed fifth in the tournament with lifts of 300, 145 and 275 in the squat, bench and dead lifts.

Xena Schlee, a 105 pounder, placed seventh with lifts of 150, 60 and

190. Chloe Wycough lifted 170, 85, 185 in the 123-pound class for twelfth place and Shannon Hadd lifted 220, 130 and 230 for thirteenth place in the 165 weight class. Layla Rodriguez also competed.

MHS golfer competes

in Taylor Tournament

Lady Eagle Mary Brown shot a 124 on the par 35 Mustang Creek Golf Course in Taylor on Feb. 4. She will have competed in the Copperas Hollow Golf Club in Caldwell on Wednesday and will hit the links Monday, Feb. 25 at the Shadow Glenn Golf Club in Manor.
