Lady Tiger softball player headed for game in the Dominican Republic
Rockdale High School senior and softball player Salome Cardona has been invited to play in an international all-star tournament that will take place across the Caribbean Sea in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from June 13-20.
Cardona, a two-year starter for the Lady Tigers, is in the process of raising money for the trip.
Costs include flights, accommodation, meals and ground transportation fees such as Uber. To help raise funds, her family is selling $20 raffle tickets for a chance to win a yearling heifer.
The drawing will take place on Saturday and ticket buyers do not have be present for the drawing according to Cardona’s mother, Julia.
Miller wins gold at district meet
Last month, Rockdale Junior High seventh grader Emma Miller won gold at the District 19-3A meet, throwing a 78’-2” in the discus.
Miller was one of five RJH athletes to have a first place finish at district. The others were eighth graders De’andre Nunn, Jesse Montelongo and Austin Caldwell. Jameson Cox and D.J. Travis, who tied for first in the pole vault, were the other seventh graders besides Miller.
