Rockdale teams spend vacation at Diamond

Rockdale Lady Tigers couldn’t overcome Academy in a 10-0 loss last Tuesday on the road. The state’s 11th-ranked team in Class 3A did a lot of scoring early and had pitching that RHS head coach Meghann Infantino described as the best pitching she’d seen all year.

“Going into Academy, we were just looking to string a few hits together and put a run on the board,” she said. The Lady Bees started out hot with four runs in the opening inning and added another four during the second and third.

RHS was run-ruled in the fifth after Academy added another two runs.

Senior Mariana Casarez got Rockdale’s only hit with a double in the third inning.

Brande Breithaupt took the circle and struck out four while walking four.

Infantino said the bright side is that their defense looked good for the majority of the game and that they should be able to handle whatever pitching they face for the remainder of their district games.

THIS WEEK—The Lady Tigers had Tuesday open but return home against Rogers Friday.

The Lady Eagles are 10-3 this year and are 4-0 in district with a 22-6 home win over Caldwell, a 5-2 victory in Cameron, a 7-6 win over Lexington and a 16-0 blowout in Florence. They are led by Nicole Mucha from the circle but also have relief pitcher Aaliyah Montalbo.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.

TIGERS—Like the girls, the Tigers also had trouble in Academy, falling 11-0.

Although the Bumblebees came into the afternoon with a 5-10 record, it wasn’t an accurate representation of how they played.
