Three Rockdale Girls Softball League teams advanced through their respective district tournaments to represent the league in state this week.
The Milano Wolf Pack, under 12 division, Boom, 10 and under and Lexington Eagles, 6 and under, softball squads advanced to the state double-elimination tournaments in Denison, Temple and Emory respectively.
No runs have been scored against the Wolf Pack in the first two games at state in Denison, according to Victoria Rubio, secretary of the Rockdale Girls Softball League.
They will have played game three against Teague Stacks at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The Milano team went undefeated locally and in district play led by their ace pitcher Toni Meyer and a solid defense that only gave up six runs in the four games they played.
The team, coached by Scott Meyer, managed to run-rule the Copperas Cove Fury in a 15-1 victory. Afterwards, the Wolf Pack defense would only give up one run in an 8-1 victory over a Crawfordteam, putting them two wins away from the state tournament. Game three was a 7-2 victory over a team from Moody, and they clinched first place at district with a 9-2 victory.
Rockdale’s Boom, 10 and under, team coached by Lucas Harrison started tournament play in Temple with a close game against the Denison Glitter Hitters that ended in a 9-8 loss.
Boom will have played 4 p.m. Tuesday, against the losing team of the Groesbeck Stealers v. Ferris Lady Jackets matchup.
Boom went undefeated locally and placed second in district this summer.
At the Tee-Ball District Tournament in Bartlett, Coach Clayton Brown said the Lexington Eagles lost to the Belton Knockouts 20-12. The team will have played 7:30 p.m., Tuesday against Leon Weiler.
The Eagles advanced to the state championship with a second place finish and 4-2 record. They defeated Jarrell Pink 21-8 in the first game and followed their first tournament win with another double-digit victory over the Rogers Punishers, 18-2.
In the third game, they met up with the eventual district champions and the team that would become their unofficial rival, the Rogers Diamond Divas. The Diamond Divas would hand them their first tournament loss, 26-17. However, the Eagles would bounce back in the fourth game of the week and beat the Rockdale Heartbreakers, 14-4.
Only needing one more win to punch their ticket for the state tournament, they beat the Divas 16-8, in order to avoid elimination, but faced them again in the championship, where they came up short 28-20.
