TEXAS TEENAGE BASEBALL

Rockdale is set to host 200-plus visitors in town when they host the Texas Teenage Baseball’s District T-ball tournament at the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association Field.

“It should be a great experience all around,” said Bobby Joe Tindle, president of Rockdale Youth Baseball Association. “The parents are excited and the kids are really excited for the tournament.”

The tournament will consist of 16 teams from around the Waco and Temple area and will open on Monday and end Saturday, July 6. There will be no games played on Thursday, July 4.

At the tournament, the Rockdale Rangers will be the hometown team after finishing second with a 7-3 record in their four-team league.

“The boys are excited and glad to be advancing,” said coach Chris Flores to The Reporter earlier this month. “I’m curious to see how we line up against the other teams.”

The Milano Eagles will also represent RYBA at the district tourney after being league champions with a record of 8-2.

In the eight-and-under coach pitch division, the Rockdale Astros and the Rockdale Rangers will represent RYBA in Cameron on Monday. The Astros, who went undefeated in league play, have big plans at district and state which will start on Monday, July

15.

“We’re going to see teams we’ve never seen before,” Tindle said. “We plan on going to state.”

The league is also in need of concession stand workers and field maintenance assistance for all the traction the tournament is set to bring to the area.

Monetary donations will also be accepted to help with financing the tournament.

Entry fees for attendees are $5 for adults and $3 for children.

SOFTBALL—Te a m s from the Rockdale Girls Softball League were forced to delay the opening of their District 5 tournaments on Monday after rain fell all day to make the fields unusable.

“Unfortunately every field got hit with rain,” said Victoria Rubio, treasurer of the RGSL. All teams were to have begun play on Tuesday.

The Rockdale Scrappers, who went 9-1 in the 15-and-Under Division were to have played in Troy with their first game at 5 p.m., after Reporter deadlines.

Venom, which went 8-2 and placed second behind Cameron 12-and-Under Division, kicked off their tournament at 8 p.m. in Moody.

The Milano Lady Eagles, who went undefeated in the 10-and-Under Division, start their tourney at 6 p.m., in Temple.

Two teams from Rock-dale will represent the RGSL in the Eight-and-Under Division this week in Cameron.

The Rockdale Hot Shots opened the tournament against the Rosebud Havoc.

If the Hot Shots won, they will play at the same time on Wednesday.

If they lose, they play on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The Rockdale Dream Crushers, the second place representative from RGSL will face the Rogers Ponytail Express on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

If the Dream Crushers win, they have the chance of facing the Hot Shots at six the next day.

They could also face the fellow Rockdale squad if both teams lose at 8 p.m., on Wednesday.

All tournaments will conclude on Friday evening and the state tournaments will be played over Texas during the week of July 8-12.

The Rockdale Heart-breakers and the Milano Lil’ Eagles of the Six-and-Under T-ball Division both automatically qualified for state since Rock-dale is hosting this year’s tournament.

According to Rubio, there will be 400-plus extra people in town for the week of July 8-12.“We applied to host the younger state tournament because they bring in more fans,” Rubio told The Reporter earlier this month. “There’s going to be little girls with bows in their hair all over Rockdale.

“It’s going to be big for all the eateries and hotels in town. The hotels will be packed. We could also use help to rake the fields, working the concession stand, taking out trash and refilling water coolers. Any monetary donation is always welcomed.”
