FORT WORTH—Earlier this month, Milano High School sophomore Breyton Steinbecker caught a calf during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s calf scramble, winning himself a $500 certificate and a chance to earn up to $16,000 in scholarships from the organization.
The calf scramble, which is said to be one of the most “iconic and popular events” of the entire Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, allows 20 students affiliated with their high school’s FFA chapter to chase after 10 calves unleashed on the event floor.
Since the Fort Worth Calf Scramble began in 1987, the program has given out close to $4 million to nearly 8,000 Texas students, providing funds for the purchase of their beef or dairy heifer. More than $3.6 million in scholarships has been awarded to more than 1,600 students for their hard work.
His certificate was sponsored by Fort Worth’s Texas Ranches Real Estate.
Steinbecker is the son of Catrina and Gary Steinbecker of Milano and is a multisport athlete for the Eagles, in addition to being involved in numerous extra-curricular activities.
