On Monday, Rockdale ISD released their summer 2020 Strength and Conditioning and Sports Specific Instruction workouts.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) required strict modifications for these workouts with detailed procedures for coaches, athletes and facilities.
RHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey said he was thankful that the UIL took precautions.
“It’s been almost three months since we’ve been able to do anything so I’m super excited to get back,” Campsey said. “I’m glad that the UIL took it’s time to place the rules that they did to keep the kids safe.”
Campsey also states how the team must take their time during workouts to avoid injury and remain cautious of their surroundings.
“Before the kids can get bigger, stronger and faster we have to make sure the environment is as safe as possible,” Campsey said. “Most of the kids haven’t done anything since the UIL canceled spring sports, so we’ll have to take our time easing them into the workouts.”
Campsey listed special information from the UIL regarding summer workouts.
Physicals–Anyone with a 2019- 2020 physical will be approved to participate. Incoming seventh graders or anyone new to athletics will require a physical on file. RISD will be offering physicals in late June. If a student would like to attend workouts before then, they must get a physical on their own time.
Water–All athletes must bring their own water. Due to UIL regulations there will be no shared water at workouts
Entry/Exit–Athletes will be expected to maintain social distance. Athletes may enter the practice field on either side of the weight room. Everyone will start each day on the practice football field grass. There are capacity and distancing guidelines in place.
Screening–A screening questionnaire will be sent out at the end of every week for the next week. Athletes must complete this or screenings before they are allowed to attend workouts. This will be sent via email, Google classroom or both.
