The Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams dominated the Rockdale Invitational Tournament last Wednesday.

Both boys and girls won the tournament and took the first through third place spots over their Lexington, Jarrell and Little River-Academy competitors at the Rockdale Country Club.

“I thought our boys played really well,” said Ethan Noel, Rockdale High School head golf coach. “The girls also had a great showing, despite having busy schedules these first couple of weeks of the season.”

Senior Brady Nelson won the boy’s division with a 75 and Ross Loth placed second with an 80. Doss Hasselbach placed third after tying with his brother, Jake Hasselbach at 89. The tiebreaker was decided by the strokes on the course’s toughest hole. Doss finished the eighth hole in six strokes and Jake finished in seven.

Braden Burns shot a 94 and McCade Casas shot a 110.

Lady Tigers – Eve King won her first tournament of the season shooting an 89 and Payton Miller placed second with a 106. Whitley Boyd finished three strokes behind her for third with a 109. Gracey Burns shot a 120 and Cassidy Smith shot a 123 in her second ever golf tournament.

“It was nice to be on a course we were very familiar with,” Noel said. “Our kids went out there and competed with themselves since they hit there every day and know it so well. With it being our second tournament, we’re kind of getting back into a groove.”

Both RHS teams played in Austin at the Avery Ranch Country Club on Tuesday after press time.

“That tournament will be mostly 5A and 6A schools,” Noel said. “Most of our schedule will be a bit tougher leading up to district. We’ll be in Lago Vista, which is a course we’ve never played before, and Bren-ham the week after that. Brenham is always a difficult one with a lot of good schools and it’s kind of a warm-up for regionals since that’s where we play.”
