With a third place finish and a time of 9.86 in the 100-meter dash at Saturday’s Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, Taylor High School graduate Fred Kerley punched his ticket to the Tokyo Olympics later this summer.
Kerley, who graduated THS in 2013, made a name for himself at Texas A&M, where he won a 2017 NCAA Division I championship in the 400-meter run with a time of 44.85, that led the world at that time. He eventually transitioned out of mid-distance events and geared his focus more towards sprint-based races.
During his high school career, Kerley won the 200-meter dash and the triple jump at the 2013 Rockdale Relays.
Kerley’s first race is scheduled for July 31, at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo. Race time is estimated to be around 11:30 a.m. CDT.
