The threadfin shad spawn is now going full tilt with spawning fish swarming over windblown shorelines each morning just before sunrise. A brief window exists for sight casting to game fish and nongame species which pursue these shad into less than 5 feet of water. The MAL Original with chartreuse tail is the go to bait for this scenario.

Once the sun rises, white bass are moving out to the 25-35 foot mark adjacent to the old Lampasas River channel and consolidating into distinct schools. These fish can be tapped with artificial baits or live shad. The go to artificial is the silver Bladed Hazy Eye Slab, especially if most of the fish are on the small size under 11 inches. If there appears to be greater numbers of mature white bass or any hybrid in your catch, switch to the MAL Heavy with silver blade and chartreuse tail to target these larger fish. The #4 treble will keep many of the smaller undersized fish off.

The morning bite has been ending right around 11:30 a.m. and picking up again around 3:45 p.m.
