Somerville FAIR. Water clear; 72 degrees; 5.85 feet below pool.

It has been a weird year for fishing on Somerville, as Thanksgiving approaches w e a re s till w aiting f or the fall bite to turn on. Dam gates are closed.

Fishing in the Somerville Marina early in the morning is fair for catfish and bluegill, and slow for crappie using minnows and worms.

Black bass are fair hitting slow moving craw jigs, plastics and jerk baits in 8-14 feet of water on drop-offs and around brush piles. An 11-pound bass took home the win in a recent tournament.

Crappie are slow on the main lake brush piles and pilings using minnows and various jigs.

Catfish are good in the early morning in 6-12 feet of water.

Larger catfish are slow drifting in deep water or on jug lines baited with shad or cut bait.

White bass are slow using Pet spoons trolling on points or using shad and ghost minnows 6-10 feet of water on humps.

Hybrids are slow using cut bait and two ounce jigs.

Stillhouse Hollow GOOD. Water stained; 65 degrees; 16.94 feet below pool.

With turnover finally occurring as a result of the cold snap at the start of the month, the white bass have begun to move to winter areas, departing the lower third of the lake and slowly migrating to and through the middle third of the lake. MAL Lures are working well when the fish are aggressive; smoked Hazy Eye Slabs then pick up additional fish once an excited school begins to slow down.

A few gulls have come and gone, but no helpful resident birds seem to have stuck yet.

The recent rise in water level has put about threeplus feet of freshwater over top of the shallower beds of hydrilla making subsurface fishing with unweighted or lightly weighted Senko-type soft plastics attractive.

As always, additional largemouth can be found on the outside edge of the hydrilla, especially where aberrations in the terrain exist.

Belton EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 65 degrees; 15.16 feet below pool.

In a word, fishing has been phenomenal for white bass. With turnover now complete, white bass are congregating in large schools glued to the bottom. Locate fish with welltuned side-imaging, then Spot-Locking atop them to work white, 5/8 ounce Hazy Eye Slabs vertically using a smoking tactic. Do not give up if your morning starts slow, as the bite has been getting better in the latter part of the mornings around the new moon.

Birds have yet to show up in large numbers and are not yet all that helpful in locating fish.

This excellent run should go until the water temperature drops to around 58 degrees.

Report by Bob Maindelle, Holding the Line Guide Service.

Catfish are fair w ith the action slowing for blue catfish compared to prior weeks.

Anglers can still be successful anchoring around under water points and slowly drifting deeper river channels.

Smaller baits have had the best success rates such as cut shad, perch and chicken.

Flathead activity has picked up around river mouths and structure.

With warmer days in the forecast anglers should not be afraid to fish the shallow flats.
