Last week Thorndale High School senior Broedie Salas announced that he will continue his baseball career at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Salas, a catcher who was a 2021 Texas Sportswriters Association’s All-State second-team selection, said his courtship with the Crusaders began this past year.

“The whole process started after I went to a camp at UMHB,” Salas said. “I played really well that week and the coaches and the players all put out a good atmosphere. I knew it was a place I wanted to be.”

Salas said at the end of the visit, the staff told him that they liked his mechanics and would get back to him after winter break to discuss recruitment.

“Around a week ago, the recruiting coordinator called me and said that they were offering me and that I could take my time getting back to them on a decision,” he said. “After a talk with my parents and knowing that both my sisters went to UMHB, I decided it was the place for me. Because I knew the culture of the place.”

He is the son of Jimie and Stephanie Salas of Thrall.
