THORNDALE—The Thorndale Bulldogs played in their first scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 17, against the Centerville Tigers at Bulldog Stadium.

“We have some holes to fill from graduation,” said Coach Scott Hawkins, “but the kids work hard.”

Of all the positions where they’re looking for fresh faces to step up, the back field isn’t one of them.

Senior running back Luke Leschber, rushed for 1,820 yards and 26 touchdowns in the 2017 season, and has rushed for almost 3,000 yards in his career, according to Texas High School Football Magazine.

Leschber also had 50 tackles on defense.

“He will be a player many coaches will have to account for,” said Hawkins, “but we also have a lot of other talented players on our roster.”

Running backs Scott Guzman and Jagger Rubio will make an impact on the team.

The Bulldogs have multiple linemen, including Corey Brooks and Corey Preusse, seniors and Corbin Preusse, junior.

Hawkins said he also plans to run the ball mostly in their Slot-T offense, so Leschber won’t be the only one looking for holes to run through.

Thorndale will have their second and final scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m., when they host the Granger Lions.

The Bulldogs will have an opening the following week, and will play their first regular season game against the Bremond Tigers on Friday, Sept. 7, at Bulldog Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
