The Thorndale Bulldogs treated the post-Christmas Giddings Tournament like a tune-up before district games start next week by running the table and going 4-0. Congratulations Bulldogs on a great tournament and for coming home champions.
They beat Lexington 60-36, Bellville 46-45, Cuero 50-42 and Giddings 62-22.
STANDOUTS— Key players were Kaden Kovar who had 16 points versus Lexington, 14 points against Bellville, 20 against Cuero and eight in the game against Giddings. Gunner Ferguson had 15 points against Lexington. Braden Pickel had 10 points against Lex ing ton and Kale Meadors had nine points against Bellville and eight in the game against Giddings. Jayden Clawson contributed 13 against Cuero and 12 against Giddings.
COMING UP— The Bulldogs were on the road Jan. 2 to face district foe Granger. The Bulldogs have not lost a game since Dec. 1 when they lost 53-45 against Nocona.
Lady Dogs
The Thorndale Lady Dogs dropped their first two games in their own tournament. They lost to Rogers 41-23 and then struggled to maintain their early lead against Crawford and let that game slip away from them with a final score of 36-34.
Kassidy Eubanks was back after sustaining an injury earlier in the year. Eubanks has missed a total of 11 games. Emily Reeves was noted as playing well in this game, rebounding and blocking shots for the Lady Dogs.
“Our offense played well in spite of only scoring 23 points. We had a lot of great shot opportunities but we struggled to make those baskets,’ said Head Lady Bulldog Basketball Coach Doug Franklin. “These games represented progress for us.”
Against the Crawford Pirates the Lady Dogs struggled rebounding and let Crawford go on an 18 point scoring streak. Kassidy Eubanks scored 11 points i n thi s game, Morgan Rabel scored 12 points and “played well defensively” according to Coach Franklin. In their third game of the tournament got themselves a win against Snook with the final score 54-38. Kassidy Eubanks had 18 points, including five three point goals. Morgan Rabel had 12 points and Bethany Preusse had nine points.
The Lady Dogs got some traction against Bruceville- Eddy in the final game of this tournament. They beat the Lady Eagles 43-41.
Kassidy Eubanks put up 14 points including making three 3-pointers and she made 75 percent of her free throws. Bethany Preusse gave the team a 10-point contribution. Emily Reeves and Jacie Leho had six points each and their clutch play proved to be a literal game changer and contributed to this win for the Lady Bulldogs.
COMING UP— Thorndale was set to host Granger on Jan. 2.
