The Thorndale Bulldogs were victorious against the Rosebud-Lott Cougars 12-7 in a defensive slugfest. The bulldogs are now 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play.
“I think it was a good learning experience for us,” THS Head Coach John Kovar said. “The defense played well all night, but nobody was happy with the way we played offensively. In the end, I’m glad we got the win.”
Thorndale got on the board first as Coy Stutts dialed up a 90-yard touchdown pass to Stryker Leschber. The two-point conversion was no good.
Defense prevailed in the second quarter as both teams were held scoreless.
In the third quarter, Rosebud-Lott would make a key defensive play with Jordan Landrum returning an interception for a 50-yard touchdown. The score was 6-7 after three quarters.
Mason Lindig would score the go-ahead touchdown for the Bulldogs on a one-yard run. The twopoint conversion failed making the score 12-7.
Stutts went 15-26 for 245 yards and one touchdown. Lindig led the team in rushing on 12 carries for 58 yards, while Leschber led in receiving on four catches for 117 yards and one touchdown.
Despite getting the win, Kovar explained how the team needs to improve as the season continues.
“Once we get near the end zone, we have to execute better,” Kovar said. “We left too many points on the field. We’ll have to play harder as the season continues.”
The Bulldogs will look to extend their win streak as they prepare to face the 1-4 Bruceville-Eddy Eagles on Friday at Bruceville-Eddy.
