FLATONIA BULLDOGS 35, THORNDALE BULLDOGS 28

FLATONIA—The Thorndale Bulldogs lost yet another close game last Friday night. The Flatonia Bulldogs won this contest with a final score of 35-28.

The first quarter of this game was scoreless for both sides and then the Thorndale offense came to life with junior running back Noah Crabtree making a five yard dash into the end zone for the first score of the night. Thorndale chose to kick for the extra point and it failed but Thorndale had the lead, 6-0.

Thorndale continued to score as junior signal caller Gunner Ferguson completed a pass that resulted in a 98 yard touchdown play. Junior wide receiver Jayden Clawson pulled this ball in for one of his two catches for the night. The two-point conversion was successful and Thorndale owned the lead 14-0.

Flatonia answered back with their own touchdown and kick. It was then Thorndale 14, Flatonia 7 at the half.

Flatonia scored twice in the third quarter. Both times it was on the ground, both kicks were good for extra points. Thorndale scored as well with Noah Crabtree making a 31-yard run into the end zone and senior kicker Daniel Monroy making the extra point. The third quarter ended with a tied ball game, 21-21.

The fourth quarter opened with Flatonia making it into the end zone from another rushing touchdown and another kick for the point after was good. The score was Flatonia 28, Thorndale 21.

The Bul ldogs f rom Thorndale scored their last touchdown of the night when senior running back Aiden McRae ran 32 yards and hit pay dirt. Monroy’s kick was good. Monroy ended up being two out of three for the night as Thorndale tied the game again, 28-28.

The game ended with Flatonia scoring their fifth and last touchdown. They made the extra point kick and the final score was Flatonia 35, Thorndale 28.

Athletic director and head football coach John Kovar says, “The team keeps showing up for work, it shows the character of this football team. They are learning life is not always easy. Every week we are getting better.”

“The offensive line has become the strength of this team,” he added.

When asked about the game coming up Kovar replied, “Weimar is going to run the ball at us and we are going to have to make some stops. We will have to move the ball on offense to win this game.”

STANDOUTS— Players that stood out in this game were junior wide receiver and defensive back Clawson, junior running back and linebacker Crabtree and senior running back and defensive back McRae who represents the heart of this Bulldog team. Crabtree ran for 160 yards, Clawson had 151 yards of receiving and quarterback Ferguson threw for over 200 yards.

The Bulldogs are 0-6 for the season and 0-2 in district play. The last two district games were lost by an average of only four points per game.

NEXT UP— This week the Bulldogs face the Weimar Wildcats at home. The Wildcats are 4-2 after losing to the Thrall Tigers last week. The final score of that game was 38-35.
