Thorndale got their first district loss in the “Battle of 79” to Thrall in a sweep on Saturday, Sept. 8, at home.
The final score was 19-25, 20-25, 23-25 for the Lady Bulldogs in a close match with their long time rival. Juniors Landri Leschber and Maddie Smith led the Lady Bulldogs with their all-around play.
Leschber had 13 kills, and seven assists, and Smith had 12 kills, eight digs, and four assists. Senior Landry Lay-well was instrumental in Thorndale’s head-to-head match with 14 assists.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Bulldogs got their first district win in a sweep over the Granger Lady Lions in three sets, 25-11, 25-12, 25-12 on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Junior Leschber led the Lady Bulldogs at the net with seventeen kills and with the help of senior Lay-well, who had 19 assists. Thorndale also had help from senior Madi Flores and junior Smith. Flores had 11 digs and Smith had 10 in their sweep against the Lady Lions.
The Lady Bulldogs will have played a road game at Bartlett on Tuesday, Sept.

Thorndale is 1-1 in district play. The Lady Bulldogs play their next match in Holland against the Lady Hornets on Saturday, Sept. 15.
