The Thorndale Bulldogs failed to end their regular season in style as the fell to the Hearne Eagles 42-18. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 6-3 record and a 4-2 record in district play.
“It took us little while to adjust in the game,” THS Head Coach John Kovar said. “In the second half, the were more physical than we were. That’s a good football team over there.”
Defense would prevail in the first quarter as neither team was able to score any points.
In the second quarter, The Eagles got on the board first as Micah Smith connected with Jabari Dunn on a 36-yard pass. The Hearne defense would also make their presence felt as they returned an interception for a touchdown. The point after attempt was no good. The Bulldogs respond
The Bulldogs responded as Caden Nicholas snagged a seven-yard touchdown pass from Coy Stutts. The point after kick was no good. The Bulldogs reached pay dirt again in the quarter as Stutts connected with Branson McCoy on a 20-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The connection of Dunn and Smith would strike again as Smith dialed-up a 24-yard pass to Dunn to end the quarter. The Eagles converted the two-point try to lead the game 21-12 at the half.
In the third quarter, Hearn’s Jeremiah Gurode found the end zone on a 13-yard pass from Smith. Smith would then use his legs to score another touchdown on a three-yard run.
Thorndale responded as Branson McCoy snagged as 67-yard strike from Stutts. The Eagles led 35-18 after three quarters.
The final touchdown on the evening came as Hearne’s Justavian Benford caught a two-yard pass from Smith to end the contest.
Stutts went 8 of 18 for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Mason Lindig led the Bulldogs in rushing on 15 carries for 63 yards, while McCoy led the team in receiving with three catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
With the Bulldogs going 4-2 in district play, they’ve secured the No. 3 seed in the district to earn a playoff bid.
The Bulldogs playoff opponent will be announced at a later date.
