The Bulldogs are 10-2 and still showing they are the team to beat. Both the varsity and sub varsity just finished winning their own tournament in Thorndale. Congratulations to all of these Bulldogs and Coach Michael Williams on a great week!
Early last week they did lose however against an 11-2 Lampasas team. Final score of this game was 47-59. Jayden Clawson led the team with 14 points and Kaden Kovar had 11 points.
The Dogs came back from that loss and won it all in the Thorndale Tournament. They won against Round Rock Christian 70-53. Kaden Cover contributed 15 points to the win, Gunner Ferguson had 14, Jacob Jackson 12 and Kale Meadors 12.
The Bulldogs then played Vanguard Rembrandt out of Pharr. The final score was Thorndale 84 to 34. Kaden Kovar showed up and showed off his hard court skills by scoring 37 points - he was eight out of nine on three point shots. Kale Meadors scored 15 points against the Spartans.
Friday night the Dogs won against Rogers with a final of Pickel played aggressively on both offense and defensive scoring 10 points and having14 rebounds.
On Saturday in the Tournament Championship game the Bulldogs finished strong against A&M Consolidated winning 72-67. Braden Pickel excelled scoring 20 points with 10 rebounds, Kaden Kovar had a 19 point game and Kale Meadors had 10 points.
COMING UP— The Bulldogs have games coming up against Marlin, Giddings, Mumford and Florence before the Christmas break.
The Lady Dogs lost early last week against Troy. The final score of this game against the Trojans was 49-38.
They moved on after this loss and played in the Tilden Tournament. Their record in the tournament was 2-3. The Lady Dogs had wins against both Natalia and San Isidro.
The game against Natalia ended with a final score of Thorndale 44 and Natalia 32. The Lady Dogs out rebounded Natalia on both offense and defense by 30%. Emily Northcott scored 14 points and Bethany Preusse had eight points.
The win against San Isidro was Thorndale 40, San Isidro 37. Kennedy Robinson and Emily Reeves both had eight points apiece.
On Friday Thorndale started their losing streak with a loss against Falls City, 34-29. Head Girls Basketball Coach Doug Franklin said, “The team played well in this game.” Falls City is a tough opponent, they are 10-5 and are on a five game win streak. Morgan Rabel contributed 11 points in this game and Emily Northcutt had eight points. Also on Friday the Lady Dogs lost to Pleasanton, 37-30. Libby Urbis and Emily Northcott both had seven point games.
Finally to wrap up the week on Saturday Thorndale lost to Freer 29-26. Brook Amidon and Bethany Preusse were key players, each scoring six points in this close loss.
Coach Franklin shared, “We played without one of our best players Kassidy Eubanks. She is out with a foot injury. All the games we lost were close and we were competitive. Our team responded well against adversity.” Coach Franklin added, “It’s always disappointing to lose games but we were in all of these games regardless of injuries.”
Lady Bulldog Emily Northcott was selected for the All-Tournament Team.
