Thorndale’s Athletic Director announced the postponement of summer workouts until Monday, July 13.

“We were already planning to postpone workouts this week because the school was shutting down for the 4th of July weekend,” said Head Football Coach and Athletic Director John Kovar. “After the Judge’s announcement about wearing a mask being mandatory, we feel like it’s in the best safety of the kids and staff to postpone workouts for an additional week.”

Due to the rising number of cases in Milam County, there were 90 as of Wednesday morning, Milam County Judge Steve Young announced it was mandatory to wear a mask in public beginning Monday, June 29.

“I hope the situation will calm down a little bit,” Kovar said. “We’ll take these two weeks off and come back to prepare for football and other fall sports.”

Thorndale is the latest school in Central Texas to pause strength and conditioning programs due to COVID-19. Other schools include Taylor High School, Manor High School and Round Rock High School.
