Last week at the Texas Teenage Softball State Tournament, the Rockdale Boom would make it five games into the state tournament before being eliminated, while the Milano Wolf Pack and Lexington Eagles played four and two games, respectively.

The three teams are part of the Rockdale Girls Softball League. The summer league will begin preparation for the 2019 season early next spring.

The Boom gave up a seven-run lead to the Denison Glitter Hitters, losing 9-8 in the first game. The team bounced back, defeating the Ferris Lady Jackets 22-0. Their winning streak continued with a 14-3 win over the Palmer Elite, and defeating an Axtell team 10-4.

Boom slugger Kylie Harris hit an over-the-fence home run in the next game against Valley Mills Eagles, but the Rockdale team came up short during the final hit of the game.

Down 9-6 with two strikes, two outs, and three runners on base, Hanna Bakken would swing and hit a ground ball past the pitcher on its way out of the infield before being stopped by the Eagles second basemen. Bakken was one step behind the fielder.

The Boom made it five games into the tournament despite being one of the lower seeds.

Near the Oklahoma border in Denison, the Milano Wolfpack played four games at the state tournament. The Pack, led by pitcher Toni Meyer, shut out their first challenger 7-0 and followed that with a perfect game, which they won 15-0.

Their success was short-lived as they lost 15-0 to Teague, and were eliminated from the tournament in a 2-0 defeat.

Coach Scott Meyer said he appreciated the level of play the girls rose to.

The Pack will have a few players returning to the 12 and under league next year, including pitcher Meyer.

In the 6 & Under division, the Eagles went northeast of Dallas to Emory, where they played two games before being eliminated. Losing to Felton 20-12, and 20-13 to a team from Leon.

Despite the early exit, Coach Clayton Brown said, it was a “great experience for the girls.”

He stressed that many of the girls on this team would be eligible to play tee-ball next year.
