Thorndale boys went into the Christmas break with their heads up high, beating Halletsville’s Sacred Heart 59-40 on Thursday after a 16-6 run in the second gave them a comfortable lead.

Three Bulldogs ended the night in double-digits with Garrett Bernstein leading the way with 13.

Kolby Neumeyer had 12 and Ty Kovar had 11.

Other scorers for THS were Logan Davis with seven, Dean Johnson with six and Chance Betak with five. Jagger Rubio had four and Beau Vickers had one.

LAST WEEK–On Tuesday evening, Thorn-dale put another beat down on Class 4A Smithville 67-41.

The two teams were tied at 13-13 at the end of the first, but for the seventh time this season, Thorn-dale outscored their opponent by 10 or more points in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs led at 37-23 at halftime.

Thorndale added 10 more points to their lead in the third and got their 11th win of the season.

Neumeyer led with 17 and Kovar had 13.

THIS WEEK–After a week without basketball, the Bulldogs make the 218 -mile trek near the Texas-Louisiana border on Dec. 26 to play in the Tenaha tournament.

LADY BULLDOGS– Despite a scoreless second quarter, THS came back in the third to beat Hearne 45-33 in their district opener on Tuesday evening in Thorndale.

Savanna Taylor led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 and Makayla Lafferty had 10.

Riley Calk had eight and Ashley Pesl, Kyndal Robinson and Kelsey Kovar each had four.

Savannah Winkler scored two and Kiera Rash had one.

THIS WEEK–The Lady Bulldogs had an open date going into the holidays but return to THS Gymnasium on Friday, Dec. 27, for the Thorndale Shootout.

THS is in Pool A with Florence and Temple’s Central Texas Christian School, who they play at 9 a.m., and 5:45 p.m.

If they win both games, they will play at 9 a.m., on Saturday.
