For the second time this season, Milano and Thorndale softball teams went head-to head with THS prevailing once again.
The Lady Dogs were able to rally mid-game and win 7-3 over the Lady Eagles.
Milano head softball coach Amanda Keen talked with The Reporter following Saturday afternoon’s contest.
“That was a really good game,” she said. “It felt like it was a lot closer than it actually was.”
“Thorndale had some clutch hits and took advantage of our errors. We had runners on and just couldn’t capitalize on it,” the coach added.
Keen was also very complimentary of her team, which is primarily made up of ninth graders.
“I had nine girls playing today and seven of them were freshman,” she said. “We are very, very young. We could pretty much have a ‘freshman’ chant for almost every batter. And the fact that we’re playing teams like Thorndale at this level, I’m extremely excited to see what they’re going to be able to accomplish their junior and senior year.”
The two teams also played on March 15 in a game where the Lady Eagles led 7-6 going into the fifth inning.
Due to lightning and rain, the two teams were forced to sit for around two hours. When play resumed, THS pitcher Karis Ginn went three straight innings without giving up a hit and helped lead her team to a 9-7 victory over MHS.
LADY EAGLES—MHS traveled to Thrall after press time on Tuesday. Milano High School plays next at home on Thursday against Bartlett.
The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
LADY DOGS—Thorndale’s Raeghan Carlson hit her fifth home run of the season in their outing on the other side of Milam County and the Lady Dogs were also without catcher Reagyn Trahan, a Hill College signee, who fractured her hand prior to Saturday’s game.
The Lady Dogs fell at home to Bremond, 8-0, on Monday for their first district loss of the season. THS is tied for first with Bremond due to the Lady Dogs beating BHS on their home field, 6-0, during the first round of district.
Thorndale returns to action on Thursday evening in Holland. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
