In their second straight match against a ranked opponent, Thorndale defeated Thrall for the second time this season in four sets 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 25-23.
“Thrall is always a hard game to win,” said Angel Raines, Lady Bulldog head volleyball coach. “So I was pleased with the W.”
Thorndale won the first set over Texas Girls Coaches Association’s 15th-ranked team 25-21 but saw trouble in the second when Thrall went on a seven-point run and eventually winning the set 25-18 to tie the match.
Thorndale took advantages of missed serves by the Tigerettes in the third set to win 25-16.
In the fourth set, both teams stayed close but THS pulled away to lead by as much as 21-10. The Tigerettes kept Thorndale on their toes to come within one point and make the game 24-23. Thorndale won the game 25-23 on a missed serve by Thrall.
“After the second set, we had to adjust our blocking and overall game speed,” Raines said. “We did a good a job of capitalizing on mistakes and we did a better job of not dwelling on our mistakes.
“We have to do a better job of reading opposing hitters.”
TUESDAY–Thorndale won their first District 25-2A contest on Tuesday, Sept. 10, over TGCA’s 22nd-ranked school in Class 2A Granger 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.
THIS WEEK–The Lady Bulldogs played Bartlett on Tuesday after press time and host Holland at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
