Both Thorndale basketball teams hit the road last weekend with the boys going up to Salado and the girls making the 210-mile road trip to Tilden, a town south of San Antonio.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the tournament with two wins on Thursday.

First, they took down San Antonio Stacey in a game guard Savanna Taylor led with 16 points with help from Makayla Lafferty, who had 14.

In their second game, THS came back in the second half to beat Class 4A Pleasanton 26-21 in overtime.

Lafferty and Taylor led the way once again with 10 and nine respectively.

Other scorers were Savannah Winkler with three, and Ashley Pesl with two.

On Saturday, Thorndale took down tournament host McMullen County 32-38 before falling to Class 3A Millsap 32-24.

TROY – Earlier in the week, the Lady Bulldogs fell at home 43-35, to Class 3A Troy in a game the Trojanettes held the lead in for the majority of the game.

THIS WEEK – They played Weimar on Tuesday after press time and host Buffalo on Friday at the THS Gymnasium.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

BU LL-DOGS– Thorn-dale got things going in the Salado tourney opener with a 43-24 win over Class 4A Caldwell.

Later in the day, they took down Austin’s Hyde Park 55-46 thanks to an 18-8 second quarter run.

Kolby Neumeyer led THS in both games with 13 and 18.

WK got their first loss of the weekend when they fell to Milam County neighbor Cameron 47-38 in overtime.

The Yoemen outscored THS 11-2 after regulation.

The Bulldogs ended the tournament with a 66-44 loss to host Salado, falling to a 5-1 Eagles team that play in one of Class 4A’s toughest districts with third-ranked Liberty Hill and 20th-ranked Taylor.

CALVE RT– Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs took down Calvert 48-39 in the THS Gymnasium.

Thorndale got up early, leading 27-14 at halftime.

The Trojans made a comeback in the third quarter, bringing the game within one possession at the close of the third, 33-31.

THS was revitalized in the fourth, outscoring the Robertson County squad 15-8 to get their third win of the season, 48-39.

Other scorers for Thorn-dale were Logan Davis with four, Jagger Rubio with three and Ty Kovar with one.

THIS WEEK–Thorn-dale was host to Weimar on Tuesday after press time.

The Bulldogs host their own tournament this weekend.

TABC– As of Monday, Dec. 9, Thorndale is ranked ninth in Class 2A in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ poll.

Fellow District 25-2A rival Hearne is ranked fourth.

The two schools face each other on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Hearne, and Friday, Feb. 14, at the THS Gymnasium.
