Thorndale finished the first quarter up 15-14 over 22nd-ranked Hearne, but the Bulldogs were overpowered in the second quarter, trailing at halftime 33-23.

THS did a little chipping away at the HHS lead to make it 38-31 at the close of the third but Hearne outscored them 23-15 in the final quarter to win 61-46 and hand the Bulldogs their second district loss.

Branson McCoy and Chance Betak were leading scorers with 11 while Blake Roberts had nine.

Logan Davis had six, Cayden Nicholson had five and Jake Ivy and Dean Johnson each had three.

Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs grabbed their second district win over Granger 58-45.

Thorndale led 12-6 at the close of the first but ran away with the game in the second thanks to a pair of three-pointers each from Betak and Roberts who led THS with 12 points apiece.

Other top scorers were Davis with 11 and McCoy with 10.

The Bulldogs are 2-2 in district and wrapped up the first half of district play against 2-2 Milano after press time Tuesday night.

Thorndale has two games later this week. On Thursday, they play in a non-district contest at home with Temple’s Central Texas Christian and Friday, they play Holland at home.

The Bulldogs beat the Hornets 47-46 on Jan. 12.

LADY BULLDOGS— THS fell short with Hearne the second time this season when they lost 42-38 on Friday in Hearne.

Makayla Lafferty led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 while Kelsi Kovar and Abby Dickerson each had seven.

Thorndale also had two wins earlier in the week.

On Tuesday, they beat Granger 63-28 and defeated Milano 71-13 the evening after.

The Lady Bulldogs faced Milano again on Tuesday after press time and head to Holland Friday night.

They beat the Lady Hornets 43-27 on Jan. 12.

THS is 4-2 in district play currently.

Tip-off in Holland is scheduled for 6 p.m.
